When we look at the background of the founder of the church of the latter day saints, we see that Joseph Smith was a member of the established Church & was asked to leave because of his dis-jointed thinking! His theological thinking did not hold water & because of this he started his own cult. The mormon church grew from this & they made it up as they went along.
Not much has changed, there are always people who wish to WORK for their salvation, even in some of our own. By keeping laws & rules they think they can be saved, unfortunately they have a good many followers & this alone attracts others. People I know who are genuinly seeking & asking questions about life & death soon see them for what they are.
The scriptures teach us that there will always be false teachers, Paul reminds us to test the spirits.
Keep up the good work Ross, these cults should be outed for what they are, they exist to keep the "Leaders" in a custom to which they have become accostomed. Doing the work of the evil one through Mans' evil desires.

Aye-Yie-Yie-Yie! Boy, I can smell that stuff from here! Ok, so I'd say that you must have had this conversation with a Mormon before.

I have not. I don't know that I could even begin to understand how a person could think along these lines. I expect that I could only stand where I am and go from there, trusting the Spirit to guide what I say.

Probably one thing that makes them succeed and bring in new converts is that they try very earnestly to buy their way to heaven, and shame us with their effort.

When people point out the flaws with christianity, it doesn't usually attack the flaws in the faith, but rather the behavior of it's followers.

Ask, Seek, Knock. If no one is satisfied that they have discovered it all, they may continue to seek, and in seeking, find the truth. Such is my prayer, that good hearts will keep seeking.

I cannot believe that people are so gullable to believe that rubbish, but then again I have seen more really dodgy christian preachers whose hordes follow them faithfully. Oh why were we created so stupid?

    Thanks for the info Ross

Thanks for this. I have many "friends" who are Mormons and it's so sad when I realize that they believe all this and I know that they do.

Oh, that we as Christians will continue to dig into God's Word and follow HIM.

You know what the thing I find most offensive about this is that they call themselves christian and people look at them and say okay they are christian, when what they believe is a slap in the face to christianity. want to hear something even more offensive? ask a Mormon what the mark God put on Cain was.

I have always wondered if the average Mormon really knows everything that the Mormon church believes. I had a few friends in high school who were Mormon, and when I talked to them they had no concept that Christian teachings and Mormon teachings differed. Not only does this indicate that they did not know that Mormons are supposed to be the one true church, but these people had been exposed to Christian teachings. If they were aware of the teachings recording in this blog, then they should have been aware of the major differences between Christians and Mormons. Does anyone know how this works?

C'Anne the Mormon church breaks people in slowly and makes them aware of doctrine as they are ready. However even the ones that are aware of all this will still tell you that they are christian, and as far as being the one true church look into the teachings of Joseph Smith. He is the one that started that after If they were to come to your house and talk with you you would hear nothing and they would read mainly from the Bible. I have talked to some that have called me a liar when I commented on their doctrine of becoming a God but at the same time they accept the saying about what God once was man is now what God is now man may become. Mormon doctrine also changes alot as things get prooved wrong their new profit gets further enlightenment or whatever. They stand by Smiths book of Abraham even though it has been shown that the translation of the papyrus he made was completly wrong. Why does it work? Why does any cult work? I don't know. This stuff is just the tip of the iceberg. The places where this comes from is all from the Mormons themselves. You can look it all up. I believe they start things out though with the family approach, as the Mormons are very strong family values proponents, then once you realize there is no salvation outside the church you are there. Compare that with the Catholic church and they are not so different. They believe Jesus is the Son of God. There is not so much difference between Jesus being a God and Jesus being God, whats a letter. Look at the comercials on tv they sound christian to me. If you get a chance invite them to a Bible study, walk them through the book of Romans. Not comfortable with that? Don't worry they won't come from my experience
