"Numerous preachers and the like often snoddily gleam through plastered on smiles that there is nothing in the Bible about retirement; but what they fail to realize..."

I hope to not see a lot of comments along this sort of track. Attacking an idea is one thing. To attack the person, even if they are a caricature or stereotype, is something I expect from an unscrupulous politician, and by a politician, I do not mean simply one running for office. You made a general characterization with negative connotations "snoddily gleam through plastered on smiles" and connect that with a position that disagrees with your own. If "Joe Shmoe" himself "snoddily gleam[s] through plastered on smiles" and says something you disagree with, I am more accepting of the fact that you might say such, for the truth is its own defense. Underhanded attempts to illigitimately attach a negative stigma to anyone who might oppose your ideas strikes me as something that is spoken to by the following scripture:

    1 Peter 2:1 (NIV)

1Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.

I am not saying you have crossed that line, but the warning signs are there. I hope that your Master's degree leads you more than your BS degree, and I truly hope that I speak caution, not judgement, in your mind, for such is my intent.

I believe in the Socratic Method, so I applaud well supported opposition to my views. I deplore the sophistry that is so often used in the name of argument. Seek knowledge, and you will find it.

    James 1:5-8 (NIV)

5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. 6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.

    and:

    James 3:13-16 (NIV)

13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15Such "wisdom" does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, of the devil. 16For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.

It is my hope that you will breathe fresh air and challenging thoughts within our midst and that by well considered and considerate conversation we can illuminate the truth to an even greater degree...

In anticipation of What God Will Show Us,

    Mel

Aren't you engaged in the same "slander" against politicans I have supposedly engaged in against preachers?

Touché. I'd have edited that, but alas, this blog is limited in that capacity. I really needed to express this disdain for the mechanism you were using. I see enough jack-booted sycophants on both sides of many arguements and it sickens me. I suppose that the truth is that most people are not willing to invest the mental effort into really pursuing an arguement, or maybe not, I don't know for sure. (yes a generalisation, and this is not to make a point other than to express my desire to understand even the obeject of my frustration rather than to deride the public at large or individuals for that matter) All I know is that I see way too frequently the arguements reduced to slogans and innuendo, and I really have no use for it, even if your point of view is in line with my own. If you make an arguement with substance, I can try to follow that arguement, examine the logic of it, and if I find it worthy, I can embrace it. I cannot argue effectively with a flawed arguement, either, if that arguement is just a bunch of puffery.

You seem to be very intelligent, and my intent was to bring you to understand that I desire better than advertisement. You have more than a thirty second spot here, please us it.

    Go In Peace,

    Mel

    Edit:

    Please use it.

LOL, that is also frustrating, the inability to edit your own comments...
