Wow! Almost a year! Sorry I haven't had time to drop in on your forum. Haven't had the time here that I want either!

In my more militant days, (and I am still capable from time to time) I was Christmas shopping and had a full shopping cart (I didn't have children, yet) coming up to a register. The cashier rang everything up and as she was, I said 'Merry Christmas'. Simple enough. I seem to remember her just sort of glancing up and saying nothing, continuing to ring my selections up. Anyways, I said it again, and asked if the Christmas Season was just too hectic, trying to comisserate. Well, I got the 'Holiday' season was stressful, and that she was ready for it to be over. A supervisor was walking by, and she sort of doggedly said 'Happy Holidays', like it was just something she had to spit out. I somewhat casually asked if she could wish me a Merry Christmas as well, since that was what I, the customer was really there for.

Well at that point it got ugly. She said store policy strictly forbade her to mention any religious holiday. The way it was spat at me, I guess, caused me to insist that she wish me a 'Merry Christmas', or I was done with them. I don't know if this was influenced by the supervisor hovering nearby, but I think it was highly likely. I don't know that my response was the best, but there you have it. It was heartfelt, and sincere, though. Just not tactful.

Up shot was, I refused to buy anything that she had rung up. The supervisor came over and threatened to call the police, at which point I stood and crossed my arms saying 'go right ahead, I'll wiat for them' People behind me really made the difference, though. Two people that I could see, left there carts, full of things they were going to buy, and left the store. What were they going to do? Try and have them arrested?

I think the supervisor was smart enough to see that she was not going to get here sale, and was just plain loosing others. Funny how money tlaks so loudly to people who are 'politically correct' but ultimatedly as greedy as they can be.

I haven't had anyone refuse to tell me Merry Christmas if I asked for it since. I have a feeling that they got enough people who acted like I did, that the companies figured they were atking an untenable postition. I don't know. But I am glad for that much at least, and I will still fight for Christmass being Christmas for me, even if it is something else to someone else...

Mel, Have a blessed Christmas through His blood and your testimony! I am agreeing that this is the route I must take if put in your position. Through the years I only had one person refuse my request if I could pray for them. I think our lifestyle, in Christ, will bring out the best in people rather than the abnormal anti-christ.
