Hey!  That is a familiar paradox! Maybe it is of Norwegian origin?  There is a very famous Norwegian love poem which starts with that paradox. It is written in the first half of the 20th century, by a man called Tor Jonsson (1916-51. (Unfortunately he killed himself.)) I am tempted to try to translate that poem to English. But the paradox, I know, was formulated earlier. It is also present in a poem by a man called Nils Collet Vogt (1864-1937).
It is an interesting paradox. It is valid for all kinds of love and is maybe the formula itself explaining esthetics.

I translated the poem to English. 
WHEN YOU ARE AWAY
Translated from Tor Jonsson: ”Når du er borte”
Nearest are you when away.
Something passes in the play.
Love is what I call this.
I don’t know what it is.
Evenings always used to call
whisperings of wind and fall.
Now there is a hidden tone
made by you to enthrone.

I appreciate your comments and poem. However, I am amazed that what was intended as a joke: LAUGHTER DOES GOOD LIKE A MEDICINE: inspires such philosophical response. I was just trying to be funny. My Thought For Today: is more religious and philosophical.
