I disagree with you on one point:

The leadership, while they share the blame as equally as any other brother or sister in Christ, is not where the blame lies. True, someone must disciple another, and we traditionally look to leaders to do this, but my personal opinion is that very thing may be the crux of the whole matter.

Another 'Oh Wow' brought to me by You Know Who. We are all God's instruments to good. We all have potentials in this and fail in them miserably. This is the essence of Sin!

In the choice between Good and Evil, we simply have to fail to choose good to do evil. Does that make sense?

I am tracking way off now. Your post provoked a storm of thinking, can you tell? I think that is good...

Mel, read what Paul has to say in Rom.7

I think I know what you are getting at.

Evil was evil before we knew it was evil by the law. Even the Gentiles knew this as Paul says in Romans 2 specifically around verses 14&15. And I don't think these are in contradiction of what he says in Chapter 7. Is this the line of thought you intended?

It was in reference to good/evil. Even though we have in our mind only to do that which is good, the temptation of the flesh causes us to do that which we would much rather not do.

You are correct in your postion of what is required of us as Christians. We are all disciples and must do accordingly regarding spreading the Good News. The majority of the problem still lies in the hands of the churches leadership. It is they that need to address this issue first hand.

Ok. I still think discipleship is a one on one thing, not a one on many from the pulpit thing that we seem to have made it. Still, I must conceed that there still is additional responsibility from the leadership. "Not all should aspire to be teachers..." Those that teach are held to a higher standard. Yet I thinkg we abdicate personal responsibilty all too much...

Yhe crux of the matter is this personal abdication of personal responsibilty. The men sit in the pews and let the leadership lead, which is good, but then do nothing to follow. Gender bending has led to the 'sissification' of the church which is leaving us with just 'social' christians, not 'real' Christians. There is a form of Godliness, completely denying its power, and these 'new' churches are just a reflection of that basic truth. That understanding of good and evil reaches down into us, even though we do not understand, and we seek to express the 'truth' as we see it. Make no mistake. Christ's Church is united. It is man's church, the worldly manifestation that is full of all the crap that needs to be cleaned up. We buy into the world's values and bring it into the church. We need men (at least some of them) to be like John the Baptist, which honestly, from the world's pointof view, will be more divisive. "Make straight the path for the Lord!" "Bear fruit in keeping with Repentance!" Not heard often enough in church. Heard more often in the streets by those trying to prothelyse [sp] the world full of 'sinners' that we see! Wake up! that is the call we need to make in the Church! Who was John the Baptist reaching out to? Ahhh... Exactly!

Regarding discipleship, this does not necesarily mean a disciple must be a teacher. A disciple can speak to many just as a teacher but in the way of an evangelist; spreading the Good News. This is something required of all who call themselves Christian. If we were to stay one on one, the message of Christ would not be spread throughout the earth as He intended. For true change to occur it will take men that are not on the "inside" at this time because these see no problem. It must come from a group of very wise men and who are in Christ.
