One thing I would add: Solomon. What does his name mean? What was his rule known for? What was he known for?

The answers are for you to find and enlighten yourselves with. You can probably guess from what I am about to say.

In order to be an effective peacemaker, wisdom, understanding, and an unflinching dedication to truth (even if it means revealing ubgly things about yourself) is absolutely essential. Peacemaking at times means taking no side, because there is not a right or wrong answer, only a matter of faith (opinion) while at other times, a peacemaker must gently take the side of truth. If the matter is simply between you and your brother or sister, you can abdicate any rights you may have, and indeed, you can do that with non-believers as well. However, when it involves another, you cannot abdicate for them. If they have a right to some expectation, you can only ask them to give it up, not compell them. That is a subtle error that has been foisted upon me, and I remember the resentment it caused. The appearance of peace was there, and gotten quite cheaply by others at my expense, but since I still harbored an ill feeling about the matter, true peace was not mine to have, even if all others concerned did have peace.

I think you covered this when you explained to be a peacemaker and not a peace lover or a peacable person. I am just trying to add another way for people to view that in a more concrete sense.

    In Christ's Love,

    Mel
