You are absolutely right. James said, "You have faith and I have works; show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works."
Among those works is forgiveness. Through our forgiveness, those around us will see our faith in Jesus Christ, and His love towards them, in us and through us. Through our faith in Him, works (forgiveness) should naturally manifest themselves.
