    You wrote the other day....

Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers

These were the key activities of the first Christians

Before Turkeys or tracts. Before, tradition, programs, semonaries, bible tracts or even bibles. Cool huh?

When I first starting reading the bible I thought that Apostles Doctrine meant bible teaching and preaching.

The Apostle's Doctrine IS the teaching of the Apostle's... that is what doctrine is... teaching or instruction... literally.

Mt 7:28 the people were astonished at Jesus' "doctrine" or teaching... for He taught them as one having authority not as the scribes did..." what did Jesus teach? He taught them from the Law and the prophets because they told of Him and HIs coming.

The people who heard Him speak, both everyday people as well as the professional theologians were astonished... because the words He spoke were with authority....

We often speak of the primitive church, and appeal to it, and to the history of it; in these verses we have the history of the truly primitive church, of the first days of it, its state of infancy indeed, but, like that, the state of its greatest innocence.

They were diligent and constant in their attendance to the preaching of the word. They continued in the apostles’ doctrine as they preached Jesus to them, and they never disowned nor deserted that teaching; or, as it may be read, they continued constant to the apostles’ teaching or instruction; by baptism they were discipled to be taught, and they were willing to be taught. Note, Those who have given up their names to Christ must make conscience of hearing his word; for it is through the hearing of God's Word that we give honour to Him, and build up ourselves in our most holy faith.

For faith is believing that God is everything that HE says He is and that He will do everything that HE says He will do.

Without knowing who Jesus is and what it is that He has done and wants to do for an individual, there is no salvation.

Look at Peter's sermon before the 3000 were baptized and you will find that he preached Jesus to them... that He was the Promised One that the prophets spoke of and that He was crucified and raised up to walk in the newness fof life and that is the message that the people responded to back then and it is still the smae message that is melting men's hearts and chainging their lives.

The methods that we use to get people to hear that message is important and my prayer is that is what you are trying to point out and in that I agree whole heartedly!

Wow Bob, that is a long comment. I appreciate your prayers, and yeh really we are truly in whole hearted agreement. Get em to "hear" the message is the key. The word of God is a must. After all that "is" who Jesus is.

Peters sermon is a great example. When talking to a Jewish audience. When talking to Gentiles you should adjust. But one must arrive at the same place.
