I remember early on in my walk with God when He dealt with the "pride" thing. OUCH! When my eyes were opened, I actually felt embarrased and wanted to get away from everyone and everything. I even asked God to let me forget..... but instead I got "my grace is sufficient for you". Sometimes learning the hard way is the only way we can change.
