This is something I argue (nicely) about with many people. Some believe that we must go to a building to worship God. I can go to any place in my house to worship or to petition Him. I can be sitting, kneeling, lying down. For I am the church.

I think I am yours as well..what you wrote about your idea of a church describes me to a tee!!!

    God Bless,

    Yes and No!
God did organize a church on the day of Pentecost and the Holy Spirit has defined it and set its limits in the the New Testament. (Book of Ephesians and other places) It has officers (pastor-teacher-elder-shepherds) and gifts and functions for all its true members. Trouble is we've made a mess of it, sometimes prostituting it beyond recognition. (Roman Catholicism earlier in history, and much of modern so-called Evangelicalism nowadays).
But the word is right. "The gates of hell shall not prevail against it." We're broken people but He intends to heal us. Are we willing to be healed and made holy or do we want to flounder in our double-minded, half-hearted, unbelieving disobedience? I've made my choice. I pray others will do likewise by the grace available to them.

Grace and peace to you, dear brother!

Michael hit the nail on the head. Jesus gave His life for the church... He established the church.. the only instiution that He set up. Was it the local church or the universal church? The answer is yes and yes.

Without the local church there would be no universal church. One does not exist without the other and each is dependent on the other.

If our faith will not take us to church.... I can tell you that it might not take us to heaven! Just a thought worth ponderin!

If we find ourselves trying to find a reason NOT to go to church or be part of a local fellowship of believers, it might do us good to ask "Who is it that I am listening to..." Is this the Holy Spirit or maybe the devil whispering to me.

BEsides.. if I do not want to be a stanger in heaven, I had better get used to spending time with fellow believers! Wouldnt want to be a stranger in heaven because I didnt spend time with the folks who are going to be there!
