I agree! Recently, a woman came up to me in the parking lot of Walmart, telling me this tale of her husband being in jail, trying to feed her kids and she had no money. I gave her what I had--my last 20.00.
I told my friend, who is agnostic. She called me crazy for doing so. Her mother had been hit up by the same person in another parking lot, telling a little different story.
I told her I didn't care. It is now between the girl and God. I know that I have been down and out and I would hope someone would help me if I was. It wasn't up for me to judge. It was up to me to give to someone that was asking for help.

I am not always fast to see my rewards, but I do know I have them daily. I am learning as I go along.

I, too am looking for my purpose that God wants in my life.

    God Bless!

We do need to exercise discernment in our giving. Sometimes it's difficult to see how authentic the need may be, but the Lord may prompt us to give in faith. Other times we can see that booze or dope or some other form of irresponsibility may be at the heart of the request. In that case I say "no." That can be a witness to the person.

    Terri,

Great thought! One thing.. you wrote... "We aren't promised that we'll get rewarded immediately." When we give to others, we are rewarded immediately... because giving is the real essence of living... the more we give the more we receive. I am blessed when I do something for someone else just in the doing ... and then we are sometimes and often abundantly blessed as God gives us back what we have given to His children in abundance!

God loves a cheerful giver because He Himself is a cheerful giver. Thought... the statement "It is better to give than to receive... does that apply to God too?

It absolutely does and that is why it works for us! As we give God is able to give to us there is nothing that can begin to compare to what He gives! We can never outgive God.

    You are a blessing.

"The bible warns against the sin of passing by the needy with pious words..."

Good reminder for more than just our cash!
