I think you're right about the origin of this, Mel. I seem to remember hearing something of the sort somewhere in past Bible teachings.
I agree; it might be inconvenient to help someone for a short time, and we might not begin to appreciate what they're going through in that time space. However, if we "go the extra mile" with it, we can start to see how heavy that burden can be for the other person.
And Brenda's comment really brings it home; thank God that Jesus went the extra mile for all of us.

Thanks sisters, I appreciate your comments. Funny thing is that sometimes you can carry that burden for a proud person, and the lifting of that burden can eventually break their pride and humble them, but usually that only happens if you are willing to do more for them than is required...
Like I said, we can take this journey a loooong way, and it is a good one to go on!
