    Sorry about that double comment!

I probably should hold my tongue here and let others have a crack at it.

However, from my blog quite recently:

    Sat, Nov 5th - 1:15PM

    1 Corinthians 12:27-29 (NIV)

Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, also those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration, and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?

And Teri pointed out that one commenting on my previous post...

Anyone who believes that if you don't speak in tongues, you don't have the Holy Spirit in you is a fool!

Just this morning, I was listening to a christian radio on this very subject. The speaker was saying that if you looked at the lives of true christians who could not speak in tongues, you would most definately find the work of the Holy Spirit. In their ministry, not everyone received the gift, and of those that didn't, they realised that some of them still needed inward healing. Once this healing was acheived, some would then be able to speak in tongues.

I only managed to speak in tongues after I was baptised, but I don't know if that was by coincidence or not. I also know someone who after much prayer still did not speak in tongues, so after many months of confessing she could speak in tongues, one day she just started blurting it all out. Others never received the gift, but by no means are less spiritual.

After reading Lee's comment, I hope that I wasn't misunderstood. She and I are saying the same thing. I have never spoke in tongues, my pastor has never spoke in tongues, some of the most Spirit-filled people that I know have never spoke in tongues. Some doctrines would say that we are fools...that's what I meant.

Oh Lord it's not so hard to be humble, when Teri's calling me a fool. You know what I'm almost sorry i asked this question because there is no right or wrong the way I see it Tongues is a gift some receive some don't I guess i have gone back and forth with people nobody ever wins nobody ever looses, but nobody walks away happy. So let me put it this way Tell me I'm not saved because I don't speak in tongues and I'll see ya in hell cause your cult ain't gonna get ya to Heaven either
    Ya all be blessed
I gotta go look in the mirror

Ross - I disagree with you - there is a right and a wrong to this and even you end you comment on that note! No where in the bible does it say that you HAVE TO speak in tongues. You are right in saying that it is a gift, but speaking in tongues will pass. What won't pass is the Holy Spirit and Christ in you. Actually hope you don't see them in hell - would prefer it if you were in heaven ........

Well said Mel, and it made me think. I research and study in preparation my apologetics endeavors and arguing the legal ists and I just realized. The more I learn about differing views, the more judgmental I have become. need to work on that lest I fall into my own snare

I find this to be true:

The more I get into the word, the more I find that the Good News is very simple. Jesus Died for all. Accept his Gracious gift. Do everything out of Love and Gratitude, including making him Lord of your life, which is a moment by moment thing sometimes.

Easy enough for me to make that more complicated than it really is. I still burden myself with rules, and guidelines, and best approaches even.

So much posturing and claptrap that it is unbelievable sometimes. It is not an easy fight. I speak of myself, at least. And I fail. I think many of you could bear witness to that and even say AMEN!

For me, the most humbling is that I am not naturally a very expressively loving person. Despite that, I aspire to be more loving.

If I were, I could really take hold of this verse and feel even more secure dspite my failings that constantly rob me of my joy:

    1 Peter 4:8 (NAS)

Above all, keep fervent in your love for one another, because love covers a multitude of sins.

(BTW, I do claim this, but as my love is weak at times, so my faith does not allow me to claim this overly much. I have to say I am sorry a whole lot more than if I were the loving person I aspire to become...)

Pray for us all on this,

Funny, but this was pretty much the Daylights I was reading for today because I decided to go there instead of Proverbs, since nothing seemed to be banging me in the forehead.

    Now, WHACK!!!, here it is...

    As an afterthought:

Simply saying to pray for all of us on this is pretty glib. Timothy Ray has not posted for a while, and although that does not mean anything, it troubles me.

Pray for him that his attempt to fully grasp Love and practice it would be a light burden, and would give him his joy back again. I think he needs it badly!

oh sure Teri hurt my feelings then say its just a joke. No I am now and I was I just wanted to run with a variation of the oh Lord its hard to be humble thing. I have to say I think on this subject and the response to the question. It is good to see a group of solid christians with differing views come to a general consenses as to what they believe. Got to admit though I think the whole idea is pretty irrelavent because I guess we all decided it has nothing to do with salvation
Thanks all for the input, and I agree with Mel continue praying for Timothy

    2005-11-11 04:04:54 Posted by ;'{P~~~~~~~ ()

Ok Mel - been thinking about this seriously. God knows my thoughts and intentions and knows when I am judging people. We were asked a question and I gave my opinion - I was not directly judging anyone. I feel my opionion is justified by actual experience, knowing I received the Holy Spirit long before I could speak in tongues, thus for me, I base my opinion on fact.
If it is going to be implied that we are judging people every time we make an opinion, why bother to comment? I think the line of judging others is a fine line, and similar to humbleness, must not be taken to the extreme. In you making a judgment comment, are you not judging others? See what I mean???. God knows whether I have a judging heart or not, and it is up to Him to judge me accordingly.

Hope what I am trying to say comes across in the way I intend it to come across. Discernment I think is the key.

PS - and I do not change my mind on this one - those who believe you must speak in tongues to have the Holy Spirit are blinded by lies. If I do not have belief in my belief system, I can easily be lead astray. My beliefs are what keep me on the straight and narrow and if judgment became a problem for me, I would deal with it as soon as I realised it - why- because my beliefs will convict me ...........

Sorry to ramble on, but hope you see where I am coming from

I once misunderstood something and said something insulting to my sister. She told me later that she started to be angry but then said to herself, "I know Jon, he wouldn't say that on purpose,"
Let's all default to grace, as it was defaulted to us. In other words, lets all give the benefit of the doubt to each other and assume the best. Peace.
    2005-11-12 00:53:52 Posted by Jon ()

And may I add Jon Let's praise God Give thanks for the salvation we have been given and utilize the gifts we have been provided that we all might understand we are nothing without that grace
    Be Blessed
    2005-11-12 01:23:08 Posted by Ross ()

Ok, just for the record, I'm not agueing, I'm not angry, I'm not fighting with anyone. If we were all sitting at a table, you would realise that I am just standing for what I believe in. We would be having a normal conversation with no raised voices. I am sure you all must have normal conversations where you put your veiws across without getting into an argument. Other than that, I am really not an argumentative person and if voices were starting to be raised, I would apologise and change the subject.

    ;O)

    Love
