Jesus picked up the scroll in the temple one Sabbath morning and read from Isaiah 61: "The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the LORD's favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion--to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of his splendor."

He takes the ashes and replaces them with a crown of beauty . . . so we can be called the oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord FOR THE DISPLAY OF HIS SPLENDOR!

Can you imagine? He uses us to display His splendor! Why walk as if still covered in ashes when He has crowned us with His beauty so He can display His splendor to all through us!

Take off the grave clothes and array yourselves with His beauty!

    Amen!

    Love,
    Jan

Mel, as always, spoken with grace.

I posted an extended context on my Blog, for I know that any given passage has more than just one message. Here, I am thinking of why I am reluctant to accept God's Grace, again, and again, and again...

Remember, we are children. We were never worthy of Grace, but God chose to give it to us at a terrible cost!

Guilt is good, but shame is not. I still struggle with that one! Shame causes me to pull away, not just hang my head and say I am sorry. It is the true trap of the pity party. I'd admonish people, but I can't. I can only share wisdom gained and still being perfected through the pattern of my failings and the constant struggle with that stiff necked part of me that wants to say 'how stupid am I?' time and time again...

    In his Love and Service,

    Mel

    BTW, as always?

LOL, I can stir up quite the ruckus without being aware that it is happening until it is really a smoking issue!

I count myself fortunate to have not done that to you yet!

Pray that my graciousness would not fail with you...

*giggles* It won't. I am very low-key with smoking guns.

You are right, Mel. The conscience at best is a faulty mechanism at times. Shame is often self-inflicted or devil inflicted. It is not the same as conviction.
