I understand. However, you might find it useful to summarize in plainer english.

I don't know how to make it much plainer. I try to make it as simple and as understandable as I can.

You wrote: "the flesh is kept in the death state by faith in the indwelling Holy Spirit"- Gal. 5:16.

May I suggest pondering Paul's words in Gal.2:20 using the KJV, intimates that what you suggest by the Life of Christ, "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20 (KJV only for this understanding)

"SIN" made man like this. Rom. 7:20 says, "It is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me".

Question: What was it that made Adam transgress? Sin? I don't believe so. Try this in your thinking: "For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same . . . in hope," Romans 8:20 (KJV) What hope?

I submit this not for argument but consideration because we have gotten not a few things properly sorted out that has left us with a conundrum of speculation concerning mans responsibility in the matter of his salvation and the purpose for it. Thank you.

God bless you. Nice to find your blog. I very much appreciate finding others who study God's Word as much as you obviously do, so I don't mean any of the following to be critical. I'd like to offer something, however, that might be helpful to you.
You have correctly pointed out that the old man is (was) crucified with Christ and is therefore dead, though you seem to think we must continually do something to make him stay dead (or something. I don't fully understand your exact position here) If he is dead then he is dead. It isn't up to us to continually try to make him be dead. He isn't dead in one way but not in another. He is dead or he isn't, and the Scriptures say he is. A difficulty arises, apparently, regarding understanding what it means to "reckon (logizomai) the old man dead." Logizomai deals with fact. If I logizomai that my bank account has 25 dollars in it, then it has 25 dollars in it. (a line from Strong's lexicon) We logizomai the old man dead because he is. We're not just thinking of him that way even though he is not or trying to make him be dead.
Colossians states that believers "have put off the old man," not that they must continually endeavor to do so. The only other mention of "the old man" is in Ephesians which says "AS CONCERNING BEHAVIOR put off the old man." The old man himself is dead. We are to put off the behavior associated with him.
I think we also have a little difference in understanding exactly who or what the old man is (was), but it should be clear to both of us that if the old man is dead (and he is) then we are no longer dealing with him in any way.
You're doing a great work. It is just this one point That I wanted to offer some thoughts on. If you care to follow up on the rest of my reasoning on this, please see "Who is the Old Man and What is He Doing?" at my site, brownbible.com
