Back on the age thing - if you are a "couple of years shy of 30", that would mean you were about 5 when you wrote this? I know I asked before, but me still no get it!!!!
Anyway, this is really a good one. I am too scared to comment on most of your poems as my mind just races everywhere. Poems normally originate from deep withn, something you have experienced. I shudder at what some of them actually mean. Your previous ones however show a softer side of you.

A couple years shy of 30 in the military, but I am 46. (I was 18 when I joined, 10 days out of high school to be precise)
Never be afraid to comment. If you are afraid of saying something that everyone can read, just send a personal message...
