I agree with what you are saying but have to say there is an alternative. the kids out trick or treating don't have a clue about satan. their parents need the help if you tell someone that comes to your door I don't believe in this holiday leave me alone I don't have any candy for you . when they investigate and see that you would not give them candy because you believe in Christ, do you see what that says to a child? if they come to your door give them candy, add a tract or even a letter that explains your view I think if we tell kids that what they are doing is evil when all they know is mom said put this on lets go get some free candy we give them a bad immpresion. I don't believe in halloween. I don't practice anything on halloween but I will not tell a child looking for candy to go away. Use it to reach out and share the love of God with a new generation. If you have teenagers skip the candy give them a tract.
    Be blessed

Ross, I agree with you wholeheartedly, really! I have been reading some of the church alternatives lately and they sound appealing. When I participated in trick or treat, I bought inexpensive toys and a tract and passed this out. How could I be Scrooge to some of the adorable little ones that came to my house. Others I know put porch lights off. I don't believe we should do that. It can be a witnessing opportunity which I will never reject. Both items combined together was appeasing, IMO. I just think Christians are not aware of the ramifications of this holiday and need to arm themselves spiritually. As always, I appreciate your feedback.
