Appreciated the Scriptures you used with this post, Mel. and as I said in another post (somewhere!) in the last days evil will be called good and good evil. Sometimes those "interchanges" are blantant and obvious, but other times a discerning mind and heart are needed. Even IF there was nothing "wrong" with the Harry Potter books (and we all know there IS something very wrong with them), why waste time reading what obviously does not glorify God? Just my thought...
(On to another thought, Mel do you know we might be related? My mother's maiden name was Miller and they originally came from Canada, I think there were 13 children...Yikey!!!)

I agree, Mel. For a while I was okay with the Harry Potter series (more the movies than the books) because I enjoyed watching the three young protagonists develop and mature. I had some uneasiness about the use of magic and the fact that although Harry and friends blatantly bent (if not broke) school rules repeatedly, they were rewarded for it in the end because it was always in an effort to save the school or someone involved in the school from danger or destruction.

However, the news bit the other day I heard on the radio about J.K. Rowling's revelation that the headmaster Dumbledore is gay was the kick in the pants my conscious needed on this matter. I can no longer gloss over the objections I have to the books and movies, and I won't go see another one.

Funny, isn't it, how far we'll let the elephant get into the living room before we say stop?

Be blessed, Mel, and thanks for a thought-provoking post.

    Hi Mel
I agree with you about the Harry Potter books. I heard that report on the news and wondered that they would even tell about it.

Like I'm suprised. Anyone who writes Satanic trash has no character to begin with. I don't know why Christians respect such people. Are talented pornographers worthy of our attention and admiration just because they are talented? No. God even gives unbelievers talent, some choose to use it for evil rather than good and abuse the ability God has entrusted them with.

    Hi Mel,
I agree with you. I have never read them and really don't know why I would.
I was a little upset with the 'magic' stuff and the evil blatantly shown on the covers.
But now with this new revelation, I have no use for the publications at all.
Thanks for speaking out about them!

13? Same as my dad's familiy. Except that one of the 13 was actually my cousin...

Thanks guys. This was more of a confession of my ealier error, as I see it. My fear is not great, but there are things my child will read that she will be no worse for the wear having done so, unless I give it my blessing and thus empower it greatly...

This thought rings still in what I will post next on my study blog.

Your comments (whether support or correction/observation) are dear to me.

    In Christ,

    Mel

Okay; you have me curious... what was your Dad's name, may I ask? But on the other hand, my parents are no longer living, and none of my mother's sisters or brothers are either... Of my siblings, only my younger 62 year old sister sister and youngest brother 58 years old and myself (duh!) are still living.

    Same as Mine:

    Lyle Melford Miller, Sr.

Was a Methodist pastor in the Sharon Springs area in upstate NY a while ago before he retired.

I forget how many times he has retired now...

    LOL!!!

    ;'{)

That is funny how pastors never really retire. Okay; I don't know if we are related (humanly-wise speaking) or not! Do any of these names sound familiar? Alfred (Farmer) Miller, Harold Miller, Elmer Roy (Bub) Miller, Howard Miller, Mylas (Chick) Miller, Helen, Hazel, Phyllis (my mother), Clara, Lizzie, Edith...
