Remember also brother that form is never a substitute for substance. I think many of us have problems with our speech and even our written communications at times. We need work, and by the Grace of God, the Spirit works where we let Him!

I would say that keeping silent is wise, if the only thing that can be graciously said would have to be a lie! However, I would also say that speaking the truth, in the correct time and measured in love to the good it can do for the person you are telling it to, is better. I am usually far below qualified for doing that, but still I try and pray for help.

Too many times, in trying to keep to the form, I suspect people are willing to 'bend the truth' in the name of being gracious. That is contrary to the Spirit. If those who do this say they do this in 'Love', then I would instruct you to point out this scripture to them, embedded into a passage that is often a touch-stone for those dedicated to 'feeling' right rather than seeking to be right before God and Man. (that is not to say that this passage is bad in any way -- it is indeed a most powerful, yet misunderstood and badly used passage!)

6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

    1 Corinthians 13:6 (NIV)

And be mindful of what is said here, as well:

14Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

    Ephesians 4:14-15 (NIV)

May we grow in Maturity Brother, speaking the truth in Love and dispelling all deceit! (both inside the church and without!) I think this is our "Great Commission" for the Grace of God is Truth in Love, and the Sacrifice that was made on our behalf is one truth we must always bear witness to. We cannot do this if we allow deceipt and lies to rule in us! If we deny the Light (and that Light is Truth) we have no part in it!

    Blessings and Peace,

    Mel
