Excellent poem. How come it is copyrighted in 1980? I was only 7 at that stage and would never have written such an emotional poem. A poem this good only comes from either passion or experience and as I am not a history fan, I have no idea when Verdun happened or even that it happened, so which is it for you? Passion or experience?
    Great poem though

My most sincere apologies - I posted the above message, but obviously had your name in mind while I was supposed to be typing my name. Feel free to either change or delete the message. Sorry once again

LOL - not a problem. I don't think I can edit it. I was in the military and thinking about it for a few years. (1st day of basic training was 27 June, 1977) I was interested in military history and wargames before I was in the military, so had plenty of time to think about the plus side and the down side of war. I have been even known to get into arguements over subjects along these lines. (not always on the right side, I might add) Personal experience thankfully has not gotten to this level, but I was growing up while Vietnam was winding down, and I have talked to many who were either very senior to me or just barely so who had been there about their experiences. This grew out of that.

I put a link to a site about Verdun under the title.

For those of you who have a geeekish hair and want to know how I set the text on the background like that, it wasn't easy. (although the HTML is quite simple) Feel free to look at the source. I had to change the mode of the editor to text-only mode and write the raw HTML. I changed it back to the other setting and then had to make and delete a test post (editing it as text only to change it back) to see how the system was treating my code. There are some buggy things it does, which I'll address with the admin.
