The book of Jude, in a nutshell...
    2005-09-13 00:25:41 Posted by Mel ()

From personal experience, when God gave us the 10 commandments, He knew what He was doing. When you look at them, when broken, each one has a specific spiritual consequence and I believe God gave them to us to protect us. Similar to Adam and Eve - DO NOT EAT FROM THE TREE OF KNOWLEDGE. Early in my journey with God, I once asked Him to show me my sin, so that I can stop doing it and you know what the first things were that He showed me? Things from the 10 commandments - thou shall not steal. He brought to light something I stole when I was about 10 years old along with one or two other things. I then made the choice to repent and in some instances had to fix the situation. But once I did what I had to, I knew I was truly forgiven and vowed never to do those things again. As for a man looking with lust for another woman, this is the one area satan has a hold over men. I believe a long difficult road to travel, but the trick is to stop allowing yourself down that road. Rebuke the devil, stay away from everything the world says is ok. A picture of a naked woman (or half naked) is not beautiful, it's a sin, stay away. With a lot of conditioning and plenty of God's help, you will learn to HATE it. And at that point you have victory over satan. Do not put yourself in a position where you are tempted. Run away, get out! I believe that it is one of the most difficult things for a man to do, because the temptation is everywhere. TV, magazines, calendars, adverts, internet etc etc etc. Learn to hate it, not to succumb to it.

I would like to say that is the one thing I have under control but it's not in fact nothing in life is under my control. and about the time we become comfortable with our own ability to fight off temptation is when we need to realize that we have sucumbed to pride and are spiraling down a long drop into the stronghold of hell for other reasons than we were prepared for.

I believe God established the 10 commandments as a means of protecting his children (as stated by Lee)from spiritual and earthly consequences. None of the commandments are discriminatory to gender, age, etc. Satan will use whatever stronghold he can find in one's life to gain leverage on the playing field.

If one places other gods before the one true God, they place faith in that which cannot grant them salvation, or fulfillment.

If one creates an idol to worship (be it a golden calf, money, golf, etc...), one will loose the focus of God. This is one of Satan's particular favorites, as it is easy for people to miss the subtlety of this invasion.

Misusing the name of the Lord - opens doors for Satan to show that you are not truely with God. That you "denounce God", as Satan had hoped Job would do.

Remembering the Sabath - This serves two-fold. This is to provide a day of reflection and rest. God new that the bodies he provided his people would grow weary if not provided rest. He also new that his children needed time to clear their heads of the daily duties/rituals and reflect.

Honor your Father and Mother - God knew what he was doing when he assigned you to them.

Do not Murder - while the consiquences of this appear evident, God knew the damage this would cause for all involved and warned his children against it.

Do not commit adultery - an increasingly common occurance in our times. A woman would be stoned in biblical times for even an accusation of such an activity. Today, this tears at the fabric of the families of our nations. A woman would not be stoned in this era, but both man and woman suffer the consiquences of dividing life that was once whole, entangling the children in the instability of parental seperation, segregating finances, etc. Satan will relishes in the opportunity to remove the foundations of God's family.

Do not steal - again, during biblical times, a theif was punished unmercifully. Today, was is trust worth?

Do not bear false witness - a liar will always be flushed out. God designed his people to be emotional creatures. He knew bearing false witness would be the cause of wars and bitterness.

If one covets, one falls prey to never being satasfied.

Take some time to consider all of the potentail snares God warns of. He wrote the "world's best seller" to provide insight to his children. Use it as the rock to build your house on.

I think we need to look more at the law when trying to bring people to the Lord. If we continue saying nothing more than God can change your life with God life is wonderful, live for him and your prayers will be answered and the list goes on. Sure,we will get some to test drive the Lord but as soon as something goes drasticly wrong in there life they are going to blame him, they are going to blame you and almost as quickly as they took him for the test drive they will return him and never buy. Show the need for a savior, show them their sin, show them they can't do it on their own and let them find the glory of God on their own
    In His service
