Mel, I've also tried to get up earlier in the morning to pray and seek God. Truth is, I'm not a morning person. My energy levels are higher in the afternoon and late evening, and those are the times I'm most productive -- IF I don't try to fight who I am.
Now maybe I'm wrong about this, and if so, God will have to change me. However, like you, I've asked God to change me in this area, and so far it hasn't happened. I've tried changing me on my own strength, and that hasn't happened either.
I know the Bible mentions seeking Him in the morning, and I understand the reasoning for it, but I think we may have made a doctrine out of something that isn't supposed to be one. Maybe David and all those other seekers were morning people, or maybe they were just stronger than you and I. I don't know; I just decided some time ago that I'm not going to condemn myself because my internal clock is different. I seek God throughout the day and I'm working on carving out a time each day for reading, prayer and study. I'm nowhere near "there" yet, but I'm committed to keep trying.
