Maybe the doctor did not want to find himself less in need?
LOL!
I am sure that there is a logical explanation, although it may actually come down to interfering with the monitoring of the drug and its effectiveness. The dosages in these kinds of medications need to be adjusted and monitored. But to outright forbid it? I am not sure I agree that is so altruistic. To monitor and record, that I could understand better. It might add another variable into the doctor's figures, but unless there is a danger, I think of it as somewhat selfish of the servant to deny the one being served.
Just my thoughts...
