Reminds me of some of the discussions on Star Trek, which was bold in its day with Communications officer Commander Nyota Uhura. Breaking stereotypes for sure! Or what about Navigation officer ensign Pavel Andreievich Chekov. That at the height of the Cold War and the fear of "The Bomb" but before the Civil Rights movement got into full swing. Whoa! Radical, man!!! Far freakin' out!!!
People who say "Bravo" to that need to realize that in the pilot, "Number One" was a woman as well. But, the Networks were not ready to support the second highest ranking crewmember to be a woman, and they told that to the Star Trek writers. So even they were forced to back down a little. These guys were bold, to be sure. And if popular culture is to be believed on the subject, they were uncaring about the social conventions and not rebeling against them as much as ignoring them!
That, I am afraid, is something these current writers are unable to do! They are pansies! Spineless grey blobs like everyone else in the world in an episode of "Fairly Odd Parents" They have no creativity and are "Yes Men" (or woment) kowtowing to the God of Television Production, which is as frail god indeed, as scared as it is of the mystic advisors of "Political Correctness" that orders it every modd swing in a truly mindless and capricious manner.
There is nothing wrong with a show that by no design of the matter, falls in line with some PC values. If that is what is driving it, however, it is drivel and crap unworthy of any serious recognition. A mouthpiece for those who actually think that they are gods!!!
