From ChristiansUnite e-mail newsleter
I found the following article disturbing on a number of levels. If what Mr. Falwell is saying is true, then Christians better wake up soon!
Christianity, The Easter Bunny And 'Diversity Days'
By Jerry Falwell
I read with interest a news story this week in which a St. Paul, Minn., official decided to outlaw the Easter Bunny because the furry creature might offend "non-Christians."
I don't know what's more disturbing — that this guy believes the Easter Bunny actually has something to do with the Christian celebration of Easter or that he is part of a larger problem in which pompous officials jump on the politically-correct bandwagon to eradicate all mention of religion (specifically Christianity) in public squares across our nation.
In this example, a toy rabbit, pastel-colored eggs and a sign with the words "Happy Easter" were removed from city council offices, the Associated Press reported.
Yeah, we sure wouldn't want that artificial green grass and those colorful little eggs to alarm some innocent bystander who happens along.
Why, they might mistake those decorations as an endorsement of religion!
Don't laugh — that's about how ridiculous the modern anti-religious freedom movement has become. Groups like Americans United for the Separation of Church and State, American Atheists and the American Civil Liberties Union are working to fashion a sanitized, religion-free public square; these groups habitually deny and rewrite our nation's history in order to enact their reprehensible agenda.
City leaders and education officials across this country have been so duped by this effort that even the most negligible reference to religion — or something as non-religious as the Easter Bunny that is perceived as religious — is outlawed.
In an unrelated event, earlier this week, in Wisconsin, a high school official cancelled a so-called "diversity day" when it was learned that a group of Christians, including former homosexuals, wanted to present Bible-based perspectives on homosexuality.
Viroqua High School officials had planned to present the viewpoints of several religions — including Hmong (an Asian ethnic group), Jews, Muslims, Native Americans, African-Americans, homosexuals, Latinos, Buddhists, the physically disadvantaged and the economically disadvantaged — but not the views of Christians.
Diversity day?
Right.
When a school official reported that the viewpoints of Christians and former homosexuals would be excluded, a resident contacted the Orlando, Fla.-based Liberty Counsel on behalf of several concerned Viroqua residents.
Liberty Counsel attorneys then sent a letter to the district administrator, explaining that the censorship of Christians and former homosexuals violated the Establishment Clause and the Fourteenth Amendment equal protection guarantee. After receiving no response, Liberty Counsel sent another letter a few days letter to the same official and the board of education.
Two days later, the diversity day event was cancelled.
This is a clear example of how anti-Christian many local officials have become.
There are untold thousands of former homosexuals (or ex-gays) in our nation who are flourishing in their new lives. But they are shunned as if they have the plague because they don't fit into the "diversity" of the so-called mainstream.
Mathew D. Staver, president and general counsel of Liberty Counsel, said of the case, "This is yet another attempt to indoctrinate our youth with the harmful message that homosexuals cannot change. While touting the message of tolerance, homosexual activists refuse to be tolerant of opposing viewpoints. Our youth deserve to know the truth about homosexuality — that people can choose to overcome same-sex attractions and that acting on those attractions results in devastating physical, mental, and spiritual consequences."
I have no doubt that the same officials who want to disallow all Christian expression on campuses or in public squares would at the same time have no problem with promoting "The Da Vinci Code," or some other book or movie that disparages Jesus Christ.
There is no level playing field when it comes to the religious freedoms of conservative people of faith. We are literally viewed as second-class citizens by many in leadership in this nation.

Christians and Gardening
Tonight at work I was walking by the hospital gift shop, and I saw they had a couple decorative round "garden tiles" in the window. One had a hummingbird and some red flowers on it and it said "Gardens always give more than you put into them." It made me think...
A garden is like a Christian. Weeds grow in our lives, bugs attack us, we need watering, and the world gives us a lot of manure too. We sometimes have thorns, but we are always beautiful in God's sight.

Devil and the Duck
I found this posted on another board. I'd seen it years ago, and it's still a good one to share again!
There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods. He practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target. Getting a little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck. Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved. In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see his sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.
After lunch the next day Grandma said, "Sally, let's wash the dishes." But Sally said, "Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in the kitchen." Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck?" So Johnny did the dishes.
Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go fishing and Grandma said, "I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make supper." Sally just smiled and said," Well that's all right because Johnny told me he wanted to help." She whispered again, "Remember the duck?" So Sally went fishing and Johnny stayed to help. After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's . He finally couldn't stand it any longer.
He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, "Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long you would let Sally make a slave of you."
Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... and the devil keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.)... whatever it is... You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing... He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven.
He's just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave of you.
The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He not only forgives you, but He forgets .. It is by God's grace and mercy that we are saved.
Always remember:
God is at the window.

CHRISTIAN IDENTITY CARD
As part of or pastor's sermon series on Identity Theft he handed out "Christian Identity Cards" to everyone.
On one side it said;
CITIZEN OF HEAVEN
EXP. DATE: ETERNITY
YOU ARE:
>A New Creation in Christ (2Cor. 5:11-12)
>A Child of God (Romans 8:15-17)
>A Citizen of Heaven (Phil. 3:20-21)
>A Disciple of Christ (John 15:8)
>A Part of the Body of Christ ( Romans 12:4)
>More than a Conqueror in Christ (Romans 8:37-37)
>A Saint of God (Colossians 1:1-6)
On the other side it said "Citizen of Heaven" and had a graphic of the pearly gates
and listed these Promices from John 17
You will live forever in Heaven (v.3)
You can live on earth with confidence (v.8)
You are protected by the powerful name of Jesus (v.11&15)
You can have the full measure of the Joy of Jesus (v.13)
You can be transformed by the Word of Truth (v.17)
You are part of a big loving family (v.22-23)
Pretty cool for something that fits in your wallett!

this message caught my wye
Sometimes when I patrol through an empty office area I like to see if anyone put any funny cartoons up. Tonight something caught my eye as I walked by a cubicle. There was a saying taped to the bottom of the computer monitor, and it made me do a double take. It said in big bold letters NO EXPECTATIONS.
I wonder what happened to this person that they would put that as a reminder on their computer?
I'm glad that we CAN expect something from our God!

thieves
Our pastor is going to begin a new sermon series called "Identity Theft" this Sunday. In line with that I wanted to share something from my own experience. I work as a security officer, and I have taken my share of larceny reports over the last 15 years or so. There are at least two things common with all of them. 1) Larcenies are unexpected, 2) Many larcenies take advantage of "targets of opportunity".
Think about it, If you knew someone was going to steal something from you wouldn't you take precautions? Jesus said in Matt 24:43 NLT
|
"Know this: A homeowner who knew exactly when a burglar was coming would stay alert and not permit the house to be broken into. |
A Target of opportunity is when something is left out in the open in plain sight, undefented, like a purse unattended on a desktop or chair, or CD's left in a car with the door unlocked. Don't laugh and say I'd never do that! It happens all the time. People don't expect thieves. Yet we know we have a voracious adversary the Devil! Peter said this;
1Per 5:8 |
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: |
So what should we as Christians do to protect ouselves from this thief?
