MMAD Devotinal; Matthew 7:7-8
MATT 7: (7) "Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (8) "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
I find that most people feel this verse is saying that if we ask for material or emotional needs to be met, then the Lord will provide those things to us. But that isn't always the case.
Yes the Lord knows our needs and wants, and through our faith and the word we know that our needs will always be met, and I believe our wants will all be met when the Lord knows He can entrust us with His many blessings. If we want a million dollars then we need to prove to the Lord that we can be trusted with one dollar.
So many people get caught up in the prayers that "were not answered". They asked but they did not receive. We need to realize that when we ask the answer is sometimes going to be "no", or "not right now, maybe later". We need to trust that God knows what will work for our greater good, and that He uses our situations to get us where He needs for us to be, so we can fufill His purpose for our life. So God knows what we need and want, we do not have to ask for these things.
So what is this scripture really saying? When it refers to "ask and it will be given to you", "seek and you will find", "knock and the door will be opened to you". Jesus is refering to the never ending, and abundant flow of love, forgiveness, guidance, friendship, faithfulness, grace, mercy, peace, and joy that the Lord has to offer! It is always there, waiting for you to receive it!
"Ask and it will be given", Do you need forgiveness? Sure, we all do! All you have to do is ask and the Lord will forgive you in an instant!
"Seek and you will find", Do you need guidance and reassurance? Yes, then all you have to do is seek God in everything you do.
"Knock and the door will be opened", Are you looking for your purpose in life? Then all you have to do is knock on Jesus' door and ask Him what His wonderful purpose is for your life! If you listen I can guarantee you the doors will begin to open so you can fufill His purpose for YOUR life! Seek God in everything you do! He is the creator of all things. No one knows you better than Him. He only wants the best for your life. That is why Jesus died on the cross. JOHN 3: (16) "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
