Excellent post! I agree with Bob; we could all use a little more holy heartburn in our lives. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this.

    God bless!

I loved the fact that they actually invited Jesus to stay with them - what if they had just bid him farewell?

    Good stuff Jon!

    God Bless

This story is one of the richest in the Bible, in my opinion. Don't give up on sharing it with your group or groups as I think they will greatly benefit from it. It's not a seasonal message.
I'm reminded of a dear brother who used to walk the prison yard with me back when. We (Christians) used to walk and talk about the things of God then, perhaps like the disciples of old. Dennis cited that verse on one of our walks, "did not our hearts burn within us?" He later died of cancer in prison, a fairly young man.
Your mention of hiring a youth pastor elicits two thoughts, if I might share them in love. The "youth pastors" spoken of in the scriptures are called parents. "Hiring" clergy always takes me to the tenth chapter of John as stated in the Authorized version, "the hireling."
Grace to you my brother, and all of your family! I'm sure God is blessing in many ways.
    your brother in Christ,
    Michael

Actally, parents are Parents, the highest calling in the world. Youth pastors are people who come along side them to help parents, and pastors, minister to their kids. The teen years are the most critical, and most vulnerable years we have. Kids can most benefit from the extra time, that someone who doesn't have to work another job, can give them. That goes for the few who are being raised by solid Christian parents as well as the very many who aren't. In fact I would be more inclined to think that a youth pastor should be the main hire a church makes.

Thanks for the chance to jump on my soapbox.
