I write this to remind myself. I have a brother who asks me what I considered my scripture for the day. A couple of days ago, I could not remember what that was! I could remember what I had shared with others, but not the one I called 'my' scripture for the day. I was embarrassed.

Now then, my thoughts on putting these two scriptures together:

1: Do what the word says, as best as you can. See what the word says, try not to forget it (my small failing that brought me to this search -- I knew of both of these scriptures, but was only thinking of the one -- God decided to show me both side by side) and apply it to your life as best as you are able to within your understanding of what God is trying to say to you.

2: Understand that what you seem to see in the word may not be clear to you. (this is not to compare God's Word to an imperfect mirror, but rather our sight looking into that mirror) I would go so far as to say that our dimness of vision even goes to how we see others. It will be clear in the end, although it is not now.

I do not say this as a teaching. It is a way of looking at what God may be trying to explain to me personally...

    Be Blessed,

What my friend would call "Faith in Action"
Thats where we should be, doing, not just thinking about it!

    Mel,

Great post and comment. In my life I have found that "DOING" what the Word tells me to do and NOT DOING what the Word tells me not to do has given more meaning to even more of the scriptures which really are life and as I plug into what they tell me I ought to do I have discovered a life that is exceedingly abundantly more than I could ask or hope for! EPH 3:20

    God bless you brother!

Mel, you may not have intended this post or your comment on it as a teaching, but brother, it teaches!

I agree with you that our vision of God's Word - our understanding of it - is dim at first. As we allow God to transform our minds by the washing of the water of His Word, our vision clears. As we act on what we read and understand of His Word, our vision clears still more.

It's like exercise - the more you do it, the better your muscles can handle the exertion, which allows you to put forth an even greater effort.

I also think that a scripture can mean one thing at one point in our lives, and then can be applied in another way at a later point. This isn't to say that the meaning has changed, but that God quickens the scripture and makes it alive to us in order to minister to our need at a particular time.

To illustrate what I mean, here's an example: My pastor today preached on the parable of the wheat and the tares (weeds in the NIV). His application of it was on a personal level, rather than the "kingdom of God" corporate level we see Jesus use in Matthew 13. I was wary at first, knowing that Jesus had a particular interpretation in mind when he gave that parable and explained it later in the same passage. However, my pastor's take on it lined up with the rest of the Bible and also ministered to where I've been lately.

Did the meaning of the parable change? No! Did it become deeper, richer, more meaningful to me personally? Yes, indeed.

Thanks, Mel! I always enjoy reading your ruminations.

    Have a blessed day!
