Boycott?!?
That was the only curve ball that you left unanswered. I guess if you wanted us to know what they were boycottting, you would have said, but just dropping that word raised my eyebrows, and hackles a little bit, too. Although tht may have already been the case because of the contentious members of the family at the wedding. Hit a little close to home for me. It wasn't a wedding, but a funeral, and all of the posturing and tirades angered me. Not even my family, but my wife's.
Well, we all have our disfunctions. For those of us in Christ, there is grace. And grace should make us better.
I am getting a little bit of deja vu here. Have I covered this ground before? No matter.
Alright, I will stop babbling...
In Christ,
Mel

In fact the (tiny) boycott was against me and the idea that anyone but the pastor should preach. These guys are old school enough they want to get their "money's worth" out of the pastor, so he should teach every possible class and preach every sunday. Oh, and they don't care much for me anyway from the old days of the pastor search. When I talk about it, I start to sin, so I don't much, but it ws a concern enough to seek prayer. In the end it went so well that they will look pretty silly trying to complain that I wasn't qualified (don't have a degree).

Ah, so they despise a "lay preacher" I guess. Not alone in that narrow minded view of things, I am afraid, but we work with what we have and go from there...

And I have views about women as preachers. However, although I know my thought pattern is different, I will listen to Gods's word. It is very capable of speaking for itself. I hope that does not make me a hypocrit.
All in Christ,
Mel

Knew it would go well, as for detractors, I remember in one place on a Sunday evening a visiter said that he would not come again, if I preached from ther NIV again! Negativity is everywhere!
On the other side of the aisle a young student social worker shouted, "Hallelujah, I've got it", that night the grace of God was alive as this young girl came to know the Saviour as Lord.
God's power over-rides negativity any day of the week.
Be encouraged Brother, keep up the good work,
Is God Grace not Awesome
