Paul is speaking-----Is according to or in line with his own hearts desire(ernest expection and my hope) His hope is negatively, that he may not be ashamed of Jesus, and positively that Christ should be magnified. So he adds, whether it be by life or by death. His objective, to magnify Jesus of paramount importnace, whether it be accomplished by living or dying is immaterial........
1John 5:14 --Assurance of salvation v13 - leads to confidence in petition. Effectual prayer is accoridng to His will.....

Hopefully just having the Holy Spirit in me, will give me sufficient courage and confidence to be obedient to God........
Sometimes God asks us to do things outside our comfort zone and it is fear of humiliation that may keep us from doing His what he requests.

LOL! SOMETIMES?!? Lee, I know you know better than that! I am so far out of my comfort zone at times, I am not sure where it is any more!
