To me, these traits are automatic gifts from God which grow each step of the way. Yes, I can practise patience and kindness, but eventually flesh will get the better of me. These are gifts given to our spirit by the Spirit Himself and as our spirits take control of our flesh, so these traits automatically manifest themselves.

Will we ever be able to understand His awesomeness? Doubt it, but it's His awesomeness that makes me keep coming back for more!

    Glory to God!

    God Bless

Hi Lee, can we ever really accept, even if you think they are automatic? Why should flesh get the better of you? Or are they truly automatic?

Yes I do think that they are automatic IF you have the Spirit in you! "The fruits of the Spirit are .........". All I have to do is make sure I get my food, water etc and I will be blessed with the fruit. It's the trials and tribulations I go through that start to form the fruit within me and then in my obedience the fruit begin to grow..

Basically what I am saying is (in my opinion) is if I have the Spirit and am obedient to His word, I will get love, patience, kindness etc. And like I said, I can practice it, and might even fail, but it's there to start off with. And slowly as I go through more and learn more, those traits are slowly perfected.

And that is why I say that they are automatic gifts - you get the Spirit, the get those traits - that are slowly learnt through what we go through along our journey with God. And in saying that, I also say that therefore if we do not change over time, do we have the Spirit within us?

Flesh gets the better of us because as we are influenced by the Spirit, we too are influenced by satan, but it all depends on choices we make and I admit that sometimes I make the wrong choice, but then I'll choose not to make the same mistake again.

The more we walk with God, the more patient, kind, loving etc we become. I can look back at when I first was saved compared to now, and I am more loving, more self controlled, kinder etc but not because I have to always try to be that way but because it has just become more natual to be like that and I think that it is because of my obedience to God.

That is why I say that they are automatic gifts from God. Would love to hear your veiws on this matter. :O)

    Choosing to serve Him

    God Bless

    Hi Lee,
I am glad my post got you thinking. That's what its all about. What I am saying is do we accept fully? or are we afraid to, or not sure, or even think we are not worth forgiveness? Have we forgiven ourselves? David in Ps 32. says "Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered." Sometimes we think that we cannot really know of self forgiveness. Therefore we cannot know joy! That is one reason we put on facades, pretending all is well when our lives are in some sort of turmoil!!
If YOU know of pure joy, then I am immensly pleased, I took some time to work this all out, I finally gave myself to Christ at Ulverston, you know where that is, that was the greatest night of my life. The realisation that God had accepted me a sinner & I could even love myself. Not in a narcistic way but I knew of self esteem, in humility & love I try to tell others that this JOY can be theirs, if they wish.
Hope this can help you in your walk, convincing others that a Christ like life is more desirable, I also believe that loving your neighbour can be a matter of will, you can set out to love your neighbour, & with God's grace it can be possible, I also think that sometimes that can be difficult on a personal level.
If you had a family member murdered by terrorists or something you may find that not so easy. Sorry but I digress, the main point is that we must accept God's grace even though we are unworthy, we grow as believers & learn to accept God's ways are best for us. Then we will appreciate the fruits of our beliefs.
    That is awesome

Hey Stuart I have'nt been in here in awhile so i'm a little out of touch. Don't you think maybe love is listed first, because God is love?anything less than that would be impossible to attain without the primary ingredient. If we loose sight of the goal then we have no hope of reaching it in the end. Love is the essence of life, God is love

Just a little side note for Lee, though we obtain the fruits we still live in the flesh it is a daily battle. realistcly even satan knows Christ and can quote and misquote scripture thats why there are so many out there who think they are correct but are way off the mark is it coincidence that that in itself is sin or what? I guess where I'm going is i don't believe anything is automatic we have to strive for it everyday, Spirit filled or not. The Spirit might convict but ignore enough and you end up deaf and blind It has to be worked at every day
    Be blessed
