hope that journal gets filled with God thoughts and as the slate on which you fill it in with is as glorifying to Him as is the slate on which the wrongs that fill that slate in which our transgressions that shall keep us from eternity with God does once Christ wipes it clean
    Be blessed

Question: Do we have to forgive people even if they do not ask forgiveness? If we do, where does that put us in relation to God? God only forgives those that ask, if we forgive when people don't ask, do we not set ourselves as more forgiving than God?

Where does it say we have to ask God for forgiveness, did not the prodigal Father run to meet his son before he spoke a word?????
Who are we to question God??? remember 70x7 is only a number not an exact.
We ask God's forgiveness, because WE NEED, not the other way round!

Teri - forgiving people when they don't ask for forgiveness is a trait of Jesus, it's a mark of us understanding what forgiveness is about. If you love your neighbor as you love yourself, you will forgive him of his transgressions long before he asks. Remember that if we ask God for forgiveness, we are admitting that we did wrong, thus allowing us to choose not to do it again.

When we forgive people before they ask for it, I'm sure God looks down and says "Now you got it!"

    Hope that makes sense

Allow me to clarify...This is not a standard of my life, it is something that someone else once brought up to me. Made me think, but I am sure that holding anger or unforgiveness in my heart will only spoil whatever fruit I may try to produce.
Still Stuart, am I to understand then that no one will be left out of the kingdom? If it is not necessary to ask for God's forgiveness for our sins then what is the dividing line?

    Luke 15:17-19 (NIV)

17"When he came to his senses, he said, 'How many of my father's hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.'

Servant's attitude. He was asking for mercy from his father. Technically, in his mind, it seemed he thought of himself so lowly that he could not even begin to ask for forgiveness. But he was admitting his wrong, and later he repeats this to his father.

He wanted just a little mercy. Mercy he did not think he deserved, nor in my mind, that he did
Run your mind a little farther forward, after the party. Is this son going to swagger and push his brothers nose in it? We don't know, but I know that I should be humbled that such great forgiveness was given to me. I see nothing wrong with forgiveness given before it is asked for. It might be the better way. What I see is this:

    Luke 17:3 (NIV)

    3So watch yourselves.
"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.

It doesn't say "he asks you for forgiveness", it says "he repents".

So then, define "repent" as asking for forgiveness, and you get to that little twist, that is not quite right.

As Stuart said, we need to repent. We need to ask for forgiveness. We need to get the attitude clear in our minds. The wrong attitude is itself a lingering sin. Does this make sense?

    Dear Teri,
    1) Forgiving our enemies is part of our walk with God, I expect that there will be time, before the hurt is over before the forgiveness becomes a reality. Take the case of a young black student killed in a racial attack by two ice-axe wielding felons. The mother of the dead boy openly declared for Christ & forgave the attackers. Vengeance is minesayeth the Lord, that is what this Mother believes.

    2) God wants everyone to be saved, but there will always be scoffers. To be saved one has to "Confess with the mouth that Jesus is Lord, & believe in your heart that God raised Christ from the dead. Rom. 10:10
Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved Rom 10:13.
Part of our trusting in Christ, is saying sorry for our previous disbelief & unfaith, therefore we call that repentance. See also John's baptism of repentance, as Jesus was himself baptised although he is & was WITHOUT sin.
Hope this helps Teri, & thanks for all the support, Good to see Barnabus is alive & well.

    That is Awesome

    3) Repentance is a turning away from our old life that is under the 'law of sin' to turning to God's way that is under the 'law of the spirit'. See also Romans 8 Then we WILL be justified justasifi'dneversinned!!! Clear & free to worship a loving God who has forgiven us in his grace, not that we deserved his grace but it was all done for us by him. Christ & Calvary was God's sacrificial way of bridging the gap between a sinful mankind & a loving God, he sacrificed himself, God was in Christ restoring the world to him See also 2 Cor. 5 we are now "Ambassadors for Christ" God is restoring us to fellowship with him. After the fall of man in ADAM meaning mankind, we were part of that mankind & had solidarity with Adam.
Now No More, "Whilst we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" Rom 5:5
    Now Thats Awesome
    Hope that helps
