The major element missing in your post is repentence. People will believe in Christ but fail to repent of their sins and the change on the inside that you so correctly identify as essential never takes place. Christ changes us on the inside and that changes what we want to do and our lives reflect those changes.
When the Holy Spirit first touches a lost man, the result is the realization of "lostness" which is the first step to being saved. A person cannot be saved until the Holy Spirit quickens that dead spirit with the revelation that he is lost... once that takes place then comes the responsibility on our part to confess our sin and lostness to the Lord and ask Him for His forgiviness and trust Him that because He lives so can we!

Without repentence one cannot have a true conversion. You are correct. The failure to mention repentence was unintentional. Thank you for your additional insight.

Amen Douglas, When people truly find Christ they change their lifestyle.
Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
This doesn't say whosoever goes to church or reads the Bible or does good deeds. We have to call on Him and truly (in our heart and soul)want HIM. And as said above - repent of our sins. Seems like such an easy concept once you do it!

Good Post Bro Douglas Going to church or reading the Bible or any other thing that people do. If they haven't repented and recieved Jesus in their hearts. it surely is dead works.

So glad to see that the repentance aspect was picked up. It shows me that there are those who still believe that this is still an absolutely essential part of salvation. Even at 4 yrs old when I became a Christian, I remember being sorry for my sins and wanting the Lord to change me.
