    Hi Jon,
Amen! A great lesson you taught on Grace.
Yes, Grace is the key to Christianity.
In Ephesians 2:8-10 -- For by Grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9. Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10. For we are His workmanship, crated in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

Romans 10:9-13 -- That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus and shalt believe in thine heart that God has raised him from the dead, thou shalt be aved. 10. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11. For the Scripture saith, WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH ON HIM SHALL NOT BE ASHAMED. 12. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13. For WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED.

As the song goes: Amazing Grace....
God bless you Jon now and always, as you work
in His vineyard, with Love, Joy and Peace in HIM.
    With God's Love,
    Lois

Ah, the beauty and simplicity of it. Why, then do we continue to try and earn it? We talked a bit about this very thing in my S.S. class last Sunday. Why does our religion spend a lifetime reminding Christians what poor, miserable, worthless, creatures we are while the Word of God tries to keep us in the attitude of priests, conquerors, warriors, beloved children.
Sinners? perhaps at one time, but no longer. I am a child of the living God and I think that's what we need to confess. It still directs the glory to God and still shows dependence on the one who adopted us.
As an adopted child, I can tell you that once I took on my adoptive family's name, I could and would no longer be referred to by my past name.
Of course, I don't intend to argue the point, I just think that we need to rise above the down-trodden stigma that has been perpetuated in our faith.

Both points need to be established. We HAD absolutly no value without God and we Have great value with Him. We should know the past but dwell in the present. A proper understanding of both points leaves us empowered by what we now are, and knowing God loves us enough to have brought us here.

    Jon,

How many times in the scriptures is it said: "By the Grace given me..." and yet we still refuse to understand in our foolish pride. Central. Core. What Christ made mainifest by dying on the cross for us. I am aware of this, and lose sight of this. Remind us often, dear brother. Remind those of us here and afar...

Paul in writing to Timothy talked about what kind of sinner he was. In Romans, he talked about "what will save me from this body of sin?" and still we fail to recognize this fully. The reaction to God's Grace should be our driving motivation, not to do good for our own account, for our best is still nothing apart from that Grace.

    Truly and AMEN,

    Mel

I do see and understand what is being said. I fully accept the point that you are making. I think the difference is between knowing and understanding what you were and fully knowing and understanding who you are. Trust me, I never fail to remember where God has brought me from. Also, I do agree with you on the point of "grace."
Please refer to Proverbs 18:20-21 "A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. (22) Death and life are in the power of the tougue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof." The words that we speak in reference to ourselves may well establish a pattern for life. I know of a man who is constantly complaining about his physical condition and is convinced that he is in too bad of a shape to even work. He is homeless. I know of a woman who is constant in her opinion of herself as being weak, fat, and ugly.(i find her to be quite right in her weight and very pretty) she must live on anti-depressants. The cases could go on and on.
My real point in this is that we must establish, first and foremost, who we are in Christ. This must be the fruit of our lips. We must be spiritually minded in order to have life and peace.(Romans 8:6) We must live and speak as people who are truely without condemnation.(Romans 8:1) Otherwise, I would have no joy, for I would ever feel inadequate, worthless, and miserable.
Accept this comment only as an opinion and not a challenge. Love ya........

Teri, you know I love you. You can add to my thoughts anytime. Your point is very true. I didn't connect with it more because Who we are in Christ is one of the main points I always come back to. I included it in the teen lesson but I should have written it here also.

We need to know that we are empowered in Christ, that God designed us for a purpose, that we are just what He planned us to be. Rembembering what we were without Christ, what He has done or us, should be where our love comes from.

Indeed, knowing where Christ has brought me from, what He has saved me from, the purpose of life He has given me, is the place where my love for Him was born.

    Thanks,

    In His Service,
