Tim, I hope I don't come off too often as a self righteous jerk. I have been accused of that, and maybe even rightly so at times. I put a scripture up to remind me of where my righteousness does indeed come from, and in that I can speak beyond what I have the right to speak of on my own accord. So it is with you. I don't know about your daily life nor the frequency of your failings. I can say pretty clearly that I doubt a day goes by that I am not failing in righteous and upright behavior in some small way at the very least. It may not be anything another could recognize and pin me back with. Indeed, it may be something so small that I am blind to it myself. Often enough it is big and glaring. God will keep me humble, I am sure, even should I overcome those items that I struggle with myself on often.

Take heart. Pursue every characteristic of God and try to claim it by his power in your life. Certainly love is the greatest of these, for in love for us, Jesus bled for us. In love for his heavenly father, whom by his sacrifice we can also call father, he was obedient even to death.

Righteousness is something you can claim now this very instant, through Christ who has made us all blameless. But it must be tempered with the humility to realize for every moment of our life that it does not come from us or anything we do.

Live as upright and blameless as you can. Rely on God's abundant Grace to cover up the mess we often make. Boldly claim it in defiance of the understanding of this world. Be loving to all, even your enemies, for if you can truly love them, loving your wife in all circumstances should be easy.

Loyalty is the one coin you can give out again and again, even to those that don't deserve it, and eventually it will come back to you. Give your wife loyalty. Suffer on her behalf. Tolerate deprivation for her sake and for your children's sake as Christ deprived himself, even taking up the cross. If there is no reward here, remember where your reward truly is. Give your brother a cup of water. Give it to your children. Give it to your enemies. Do it for God and in appreciation for his love for you.

Be Blessed and ASK God for his abundant blessings.

Pray for me and anyone else who should ask you to do so, for in Christ, you are a righteous man capable of asking for anything. I would be so bold as to say to occasionally, at least, have faith to realize that your faith is in fact the limiting factor, and push that envelope a little bit. Ask beyond the limit of what your faith is today, and ask for more faith.

Make God's will your goal, and I think you will find it impossible to ask for what you think is counter to his will. The more perfectly you are in his will, the more perfect your petitions and prayers will become.

Seek first the Kindom of God, and his rightesousness, and...

    Well, you know the rest.

Again, may God Bless you richly, so richly that you cannot miss it.

    Mel

Even as I sit here and read the words you posted, I am drawn in to what meaning is behind those precious words. It made me pause after each sentence and think about exactly what we are expected to act like. I also think it is only reachable through God's grace and perfection, but WOW, really gave me food for thought. Going to pick out the ones that hit home for me and really work on that!
    Thanks for the post.
    God Bless
