Jon, Here in South Africa, we have many people who sit by the traffic lights with signs saying "no money, no job, kids to feed, please help". A sad, but very real thing. I seldom give money, but do so enjoy being able to give food, or even our unused clothes. I must say that almost every time I have given, these people look into my eyes with much appreciation and always say "May God Bless you".
I often wonder just how many times have they set out in the morning, asking God for help to get through just that one day. I am grateful to God that He has used me to perhaps answer someones much needed prayer. From their point of veiw, the actions of those giving does give God the glory, from my point of veiw, my heart is warmed just by their reaction alone. God has blessed each of us, so that we can be a blessing to others. I believe that if you give for any other reason, you won't continue with that on an ongoing basis because there is no fulfillment. The pride and ability to brag about your actions does nothing for your soul. When you give out of love and compassion, your soul is touched - and that is worth more than anything and becomes the driving force in you wanting to give more and more and more.
Do I make sense here?
Be blessed

We have people like that here also I see them some mornings being dpopped of by an expensive vehicle other times I have seen the car bring fast food for them and there relief is in the bushes beside the road. I have no problem with giving to the needy but when being needy is your job that is a problem. I think that our society has enabled people to do this and when it becomes a franchised enterprise with someone else reaping benefit from others tragedy it speaks poorly of how we deal with the situation Government was not established as a welfare organization they and we need to let the church handle that
In Christ, of Christ and for Christ
