I am not sure. I cannot know. It is a nice thought, and I hope it is so!
Yes, no matter what the motivation and despite (or because of) the mess, something more powerful than the vessel shines through...
The Jar of Ointment that Jesus was prepared for his burial before he died. That jar was probably pretty neat, but the purfume inside was priceless!
No matter. Good or bad, what is inside shining out is more powerful and indicative than anything else...
In Truth,
Mel

This is one of my favorites of his songs. I love the sentiments and longings he expresses - it's how I feel a lot of the time. I long for heaven.
In fact, I recently had cause to consider just how much I want to go home to the Lord. My nurse practitioner became alarmed when she took my blood pressure and saw how high it was, and she urged me to go back on hypertension medicine. I thought, what's the big deal? If I die, I go to be with Jesus. But then I thought, yeah, but if I stroke out while driving I-10, I'll take other people out with me, and I don't want that. So, I'm back on the meds. But if I thought I could avoid it without hurting others, I'd take my chances.
I guess the point of that rabbit trail is, I get where Rich was coming from in this song. I can't wait to meet up with him someday and tell him how much his music ministered to me on this side of eternity. I also want to tell him what a kick I got out of another of his songs, "Screen Door." It's based on the passage in James about our faith being demonstrated in our works. If you haven't heard it, you should check it out - challenging message delivered with humor, and a capella to boot.
Thanks for posting about Rich. Remembering his music brought a smile to my face this morning.

At last, a Mullins fan! "Its about as useless as a screen door on a submarine" I like Allrightokahuhamen (or however you spell it) too.

Yeah, me too! And how about "Awesome God" - gives me chills every time I hear it.
