    Spirit Soul Body

It is through the corporal body that man comes into contact with the material world. Hence we may label the body as that part which gives us world-consciousness. The soul comprises the intellect which aids us in the present state of existence and the emotions which proceed from the senses. Since the soul belongs to man’s own self and reveals his personality, it is termed the part of self-consciousness. The spirit is that part by which we commune with God and by which alone we are able to apprehend and worship Him. Because it tells us of our relationship with God, the spirit is called the element of God-consciousness. God dwells in the spirit, self dwells in the soul, while senses dwell in the body.

    Love Not the World

    15. Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world. 17. The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of God lives forever. (1John 2 15-17)

Every heresy, every neglect or denial of God’s truth, weakens the spiritual life. The rejection of the faith in the divinity of Christ, of the atonement through blood, or justification by faith, or regeneration by the Spirit, endangers the life of the church. But of all heresies the worst, the heresy of heresies is a worldly spirit. It disposesses the Spirit of God and makes every truth powerless. It brings the church into subjection to the god of this world. If there is one prayer we need it is this: Lord, show us what thou meanest: Not of the world! As we see what it is to have a supernatural life and calling, and what a shame to sacrifice this to a worldly spirit, and are able to judge how far this is done in the church, our whole heart will cry out for revival as the one only thing that can help the church.

    The Holy Spirit

God in the Person of the Holy Spirit

    1. Teaches (Jn. 14:26)
John 14:26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything, and will cause you to remember everything I said to you.

    2. Testifies (Jn. 15:26)
John 15:26 When the Advocate comes, whom I will send you from the Father the
Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father – he will testify about me,

    3. Reproves (Jn. 16:8-11)
John 16:8 And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin
    and righteousness and judgment
    John 16:9 concerning sin, because they do not believe in me;
    John 16:10 concerning righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer;
John 16:11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world has been condemned.

    4. Guides into truth (Jn. 16:13)
John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears,
and will tell you what is to come.

    5. Speaks (Acts 13:2)
Acts 13:2 While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

    6. Calls men into service (Acts 13:2)
Acts 13:2 While they were serving the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said,
“Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”

    7. Directs men in service (Acts 16:6-7)
Acts 16:6 They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been
prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in the province of Asia.
Acts 16:7 When they came to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia,
but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to do this,

    8. Prays and intercedes for us (Rom. 8:26-27)
Rom 8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness,
for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself
intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings.
Rom 8:27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the
Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will.

    9. Searches all things, even the deep things of God (1 Cor. 2:10)
1Cor 2:10 God has revealed these to us by the Spirit.
For the Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

    10. Works through us (1 Cor. 12:11)
1Cor 12:11 It is one and the same Spirit, distributing as he decides to each person,
    who produces all these things.

The Person of the Holy Spirit can be...

    1. Blasphemed (Mt. 12:31-32)
Matt 12:31 For this reason I tell you, people will be forgiven for every sin
and blasphemy, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
Matt 12:32 Whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven.
But whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.

    2. Lied to (Acts 5:3)
Acts 5:3 But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to
lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back for yourself part of the proceeds from the sale of the land?

    3. Tempted or tested (Acts 5:9)
Acts 5:9 Peter then told her, “Why have you agreed together to test
the Spirit of the Lord? Look! The feet of those who have buried your
husband are at the door, and they will carry you out!”

    4. Resisted (Acts 7:51)
Acts 7:51 “You stubborn people, with uncircumcised hearts and ears!
You are always resisting the Holy Spirit, like your ancestors did!

    5. Grieved (Eph. 4:30)
Eph 4:30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were
sealed for the day of redemption.

    6. Insulted (Heb. 10:29)
Heb 10:29 How much greater punishment do you think that person
deserves who has contempt for the Son of God, and profanes the blood
of the covenant that made him holy, and insults the Spirit of grace?

If we live by faith and obedience we can expect the Spirit to do amost holy and wonderful work in us. "If we live by the Spirit"—this is our faith, for we believe that the Holy Spirit abides in us; then "let us also walk by the Spirit"—this is our obedience (Gal. 5.25). We ought to believe simply and restfully that our Lord has given us His Spirit, now abiding in us. Believe in His gift and trust that the Holy Spirit indwells you. Take this as the secret of Christ’s life in you: His Spirit dwells in your innermost spirit. Meditate on it, believe in it, and remember it until this glorious truth produces within you a holy fear and wonderment that the Holy Spirit indeed abides in you! Now learn to follow His leading. Such guidance emerges not from the mind or thoughts; it is something of life. We must yield to God and let His Spirit govern everything. He will manifest the Lord Jesus in our life because this is His task.

The Father The Son The Holy Spirit

It is the love of God the Father that purposes all.

It is the grace of God the Son that provides all.

And it is the communion of God the Spirit that performs all.

Love, grace and communion are all equally essential.

What would love be without grace?

    It would have no expression.

What would grace be without communion?

    It would be unattainable.

    Not My Will

Other interests must be "set aside" at the beckoning of the Lord. Even legitimate things that bring us into a conflict with the Lord’s interests, which seemingly cannot be put off. In order for us to be in this "overcoming" relationship with Him, the Lord requires the "right" and the "priority" to our time. When He deals with us, we must overcome all other interests and activities. We must say "no" to things in order to say "yes" to Him. This may be very costly, as it cuts across all the human drives within us.
