It’s funny how we can read the same verse countless times and then one day, all of a sudden, it jumps right out at you. This happened to me today.
Philip, certainly not one of the names that pops into your mind when thinking of the disciples, probably gave us the most direct, and simplistic, way to witness.
Philip *found Nathanael and *said to him, "We have found Him of whom Moses in the Law and also the Prophets wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
Nathanael said to him, "Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?" Philip *said to him, "Come and see." (John 1:45-46)
It was the simplicity, conviction, and faith of Philip that jumped off the page for me. His message was simple, he had found Jesus, and he was convinced that Jesus was the Messiah, and he had faith enough to say “come and see”.
Apologetics is not one of my strengths so witnessing has never been easy for me. I think the Lord was showing me how uncomplicated it really is. I don’t have to use persuasive speech, I just have to tell them to “come and see” and let the Lord take it from there. Jesus said, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” If they “come and see”, they will find Him, just as Philip found Him, just as I have found Him.

For the past week I have been glued to the news and the fact is, I'm not quite sure how to feel. On the one hand, it truly disturbs me, especially where innocent people are caught in the middle and the possibility of greater horrors could be right around the corner. On the other hand, could this be the catalyst that ushers in the return of my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Could we be that close? Am I ready? Am I spending too much time watching Fox News and not enough time in God's Word? Is it normal to feel apprehensive as a Christian or am I not concerned enough?
Good grief! As I am writing this I think maybe I should take my eyes off of "what" and put them on "who", meaning Jesus who told us to come to Him when we are weary and He will give us rest.
"These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world."
Thank you Lord, may Your word take root in me and bring forth the fruit of peace. Amen.
