    Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour!!! While there are still some parts of this blog that are under construction (and I sincerely thank you for your patience), I am in need of some food for thought, that is, questions!     Questions Answered with God's Word



    I was asked yesterday - what is a demon? are demons real? do they posses people? how can we tell if someone is possessed? I suggested perhaps a short study on the subject of Demonology would satisfy the curiosity. An affirmative nod has launched the following:

         A demon is a fallen angel. You will recall that previously I had mentioned that Lucifer was the highest archangel of God before he decided to usurp God's sovereignty.  By wanting to take charge of Heaven, to govern Heaven and the angels, to be like the Lord Most High, Lucifer was consequently expelled from the very place he sought to control. Thus he became known as Satan. Other names he also goes by are: " . . . the dragon, that old serpent . . ." (Revelation 20.2); " . . . a murderer . . . a liar and the father of it . . . " (John 8.44); " . . . the accuser of our brethren . . . " (Revelation 12.10); and many more. Since God had created Lucifer with "free will," that is, he was given the power of choice, Lucifer was able to voluntarily worship God or not. As we all know, he elected to let his pride get the best of him and in so doing his rebellion against God cost him everything. As a result he and the angels that were in partnership with him were expelled from Heaven - God's Word tell us:    

    "Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. 18 Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, it shall devour thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. 19 All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more." (Ezekiel 28.12-19)

    His eternal fall was  further documented by the prophet Isaiah:
     
    "How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the
    clouds; I will be like the most High." (Isaiah 14.12-14)

        
    So there you have it - Satan's (Lucifer's) great fall, along with that of his partnering angels (now known as demons) are real beings! Therefore, since they are real, what can they do to us?
    Again, we turn to God's Word for the answer. But first, let's get a few matters out in the open; that is, let's address some things that really shouldn't have been given the notoriety they were -
          1.) I am not an authority on Satan - God and His Word are. I simply turn to His Word and study it to inform myself about His creation. There is no human teacher that can better inform us about God, Satan, or any other Biblical / Spiritual matter than God Himself ((through His Holy Spirit)"But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.") And don't forget, Satan is the Father of Lies, he is out to deceive us!
          2.) Satan does not have a red suit, nor does he have a tail or horns. This is the closest description we have of him: "Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. 13 Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. 14 Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. 15 Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. 16 By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. 17 Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee." (Ezekiel 28.13-17) However, he is quite pleased at having misleading depictions of his nature being spread around; they serve as distractions, diverting attention from his wickedness.
          3.) As for the matter of whether Satan can fly or has wings - I believe the reason people think that Satan can fly and that he has wings is because angels have wings. However, I don't know if Satan, known as the Archangel Lucifer before he was expelled from Heaven, kept his wings or not. In the garden in Eden he speaks through a serpent, and in the book of Revelation he is referred to as that old serpent, "And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years," (Revelation 20.2). Therefore, since there is no clear indication, either way, as to whether he has or has not wings or the ability to fly; my inclination is that he doesn't, and, since he is known to be able to travel at the speed of thought - why would he need them? As a matter of fact, there are references to him ". . walking up and down in it." (Job 1.7, 2.2;); and ". . . as a roaring lion, walketh about . . ." (1 Peter 5.8). I can't think of one instance where Satan is referred to as having flown somewhere!
        
           Now let's address what some consider a controversial subject: DEMON POSSESSION

    Questions Answered with God's Word



    Greetings in the precious name of our Lord! I pray you are having a great day!
     
    Today's questions is:

    What does God's Word have to say about homosexuality?
    (
    Other subjects being addressed this week are: Is marriage limited between one woman and one man? Is birth control addressed by God's Word? Does the Bible have anything to say about capital punishment? ......... )

          God's Word speaks quite clearly on this subject. While some may not appreciate the message, what we are dealing with here are God's moral standards which emulate His unchanging character; it surely is not a matter of whether mankind's opinions or preferences have been accommodated; instead, it is whether we accept His Sovereignty and the fact that we are His creatures and He, our Creator. Therefore, as voluntary believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, His Word becomes to us the principle authority in all matters of faith and behavior.  In the book of Leviticus, chapter 18, and verse 22, we read:  "Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination." In the New Testament we find, "Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: (Romans 1.24) A few verses further, verses 26-27 it says, " For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. And in the same chapter, verse 29, "Being filled with all unrighteousness . . .without natural
    affection, implacable, unmerciful. . ." (vs.31) "Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. (vs.32)
    As we continue, we move on to the First letter to the Corinthians, chapter 6, and verse 9, where it says, "Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind . . . " In 1 Thessalonians 4.3-5 it says, "For this is the will of God . . . That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour; . . . "Not in the lust of concupiscence, . . ." and continued in verses 7-8, "For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness. He therefore that despiseth, despiseth not man, but God, who hath also given unto us His Holy Spirit."

    Is marriage to be limited between one man and one woman?
        
           I believe marriage, that is, a legitimate marriage is to consist of only one man and one woman.  I know, today it seems that anything goes! Actually, if someone wants to marry a tree, that's fine by me; just because there is a marriage ceremony doesn't make the union legitimate in God's eyes. A legitimate marriage consists of a marriage done God's way; however, with the way some of today's people behave towards some of their toys you'd think they were married to them for real! Nevertheless, Christians have God's Word to guide and direct them in all behavioral concerns. In Genesis 2.24 it says, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh."  Romans 7:2-3 takes it a bit further: "For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he live." 1 Corinthians 7:10  "And unto the married I command, yet not I, but the Lord, Let not the wife depart from her husband; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man." So there you have it; as it was in the beginning, Adam and Eve, not Allen and Steve - nor was it Mary and Miriam. I'm not being  facetious; I'm simply stating Biblical Truths. From the beginning it has been the same - once mankind chooses to alter that which God has ordained, great care should be taken - for God is not mocked! (Galatians 6.7)
