    Witnessing-Something to consider

This morning during your morning prayers ... did your prayers feel like they were going somewhere or more like nowhere?

Ever feel like your praying the same ol prayers so much that you are getting bored with them?

    If your bored ...
Ever wonder, if God is bored with your prayers?

You do have mornings prayer don't you? ... Evening prayers?
    Ummmmm.

So ... whenever you do pray, are you praying what you think "you" need to be praying?

Or are you praying for what God wants you to pray for?

Is it your prayer list, or His? Something to consider.

    And last ...
"When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is set before you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.' Luke 10:8,9

    Did you hear that?
When the news is welcomed, When the light draws them, stay there and share your fellowship and share what you know.

    It says ...
Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God is near you.'

    Did you catch that?
If you want to heal the sick. get your eyes of the sick and on to the lost.
get your eyes off the illness and onto the gospel. (Jesus)

If they are willing to look at the light, they can be healed so they can recieve the gospel. (Doesn't mean they will, but they are able.)

See, when we obey, and put legs to the command, and carry out to the letter His instructions to bring healing and salvation to those who are estranged from Christ, He will not forsake us nor make us look foolish.

All the world needs today are Christians who will simply believe the clear instruction of Jesus.

Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves.

It's a rough ride sometimes. Jesus never said it wouldn't be. In fact, He knew exactly what He was sending us into.

See. Presenting the gospel to a lost and dying world can be downright hazardous to one's health. There are some people who don't want to listen.

However, the only other alternative ... is to not do what Jesus has commissioned us to do. And that's not much of an alternative at all.

    Finally ...
Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

It doesn't take much to spread the pure gospel of Jesus Christ.

We would never know that by some of todays standards. There are Lots expensive ways to get the gospel out to people, you can buy them books, tapes, entire tape series, there is television and radio airtime, and lots innovative ways. Some of them are even effective, from time to time.

However, sometimes we get wrapped up in getting someone else to do our evangelizing for us, or feeling that we first have to be better educated before we are able to share with others.

Nothing is farther from the truth. In fact I met a man several years ago, that started witnessing after being a Christian three weeks and knew only one verse. John 3:16

The fact is, Jesus saw it as a basically simple endeavor
    .
Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road.

    In other words ...
Leave your money home, as you don't have to travel far to share the gospel. Some of us only have to walk next door. Don't take a spare pair of shoes, you won't have to walk very far before you run into someone who needs to hear about Lord.

Do not greet anyone on the road.
Don't get sidetracked along the way. You might be there to pick up milk and bread, but that's not the mission, that's the excuse to be there. Maybe it's a doctors appointment, or your trying to drop of your car at the repair shop. But that is not the misssion. The misssion is to shine the light on Jesus Christ. You don't have to beat them up, just shine the light. That is the mission.

Travel light and don't let anything interfere with the task at hand!

There is also a shortage of workers to go out and reap and gather the harvest. This is due to a lot of reasons. Some are ignorant, they just don't know that Jesus wants us to do this. Some are just plain lazy or some, know, and they are not lazy, they are just disobedient.

This is why Jesus Himself has called us to prayer. He knows all the excuses, and He knows how many are desperately in need of salvation. He calls us to pray to the Lord of the harvest, which is His Father in heaven, that He would send forth those needed to gather in the harvest of souls.

See here is how it works, In order to not be quilty of being ignorant, lazy, or disobedient, we can pray. We can pray to the Lord of the harvest, that He send workers.

So, pray that God will work in the hearts of all the Christians and give them a desire to get with the program. Now if every body is praying for everybody to get it together and get with God's program. Then everybody else is praying for you to get it together with God's program.

Now I'm not making this up. I didn't write the book. This is how it works.

    Jesus told them,

"The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

The harvest Jesus is speaking about here is not corn, wheat, sugar beets, or turnips. The harvest He is talking about is one of people. Eternal souls.

There are lots and lots of people who have never heard the gospel, or made a commitment to Christ. Oh, they have heard about God or even about Jesus. I have a good friend who has shared many times that in growing up in a major denomination, he heard all the stories, but not once did anybody ever ask him to commit his life to christ.

In other words, there are many right now in this country who have heard of Christ, heard of abortion, same sex marriage, evolution and creation. Because we make a fuss about these, and should. But they are in danger of eternal death in hell. Because they have never met Jesus Christ.

Sometimes it works like this ...
I'm walking down the street and I pass a house where an elderly women is having trouble bending over to get the weeds out of her flower gardens. So I jump over her little picket fence and pull the weeds for her. While I'm there, I mow the grass, trim the edge and water the flowers too. As I jump over the fence to leave, she says something like, "Thank you so much, I really appreciate this.: And I say " Your welcome it is my pleasure".

    I just sinned ...
I just stole God's light and God's glory.

Shine the light on Him. That is the mission.

See I know me. If left to my own devices and I say, "your welcome it's my pleasure." that makes me look good. Kind of like if someone says "And I give all the glory to God" enough times it makes them look Godly and humble. And steals God's glory. Because it shines the light on the person, not God.

Maybe I should say something like ... "I helped you with your garden, because God loves you.

See I know He spent a lot of time and energy over the years to make me who I am and get me here today, so that I could help you because He wants you to know just how much He loves you.

Without God's Spirit working in me. I don't help anybody do anything. So I know it's because He loves you."

    Witnessing part 1

    Going before the Lord,
because it is His will for you.

There is a passage of scripture ... In the bible ... I'm not kidding

After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go! I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Do not take a purse or bag or sandals; and do not greet anyone on the road. Luke 10:1-4

Wow! there is an awful lot going on there. Let's take it a little bit at a time.

    It starts out ...
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of Him to every town and place where He was about to go.

    Did you get that?
We have a solemn appointment. Jesus Himself has appointed us to go before Him.

*Where ever you were yesterday, that is where He wants to go next.*

He has operated this way from the time John the Baptist went before, making straight the paths of the Lord, through the time He appointed the disciples to go before Him into every city He would visit.

    It says ...
After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.

Where you went, is where He is going. Now why do you suppose He sent you there first?

It was to shine the light on Him. Now It says that He sent you there. The question is ...
did you do what you were supposed to do when you got there?

Dear Christians, I cannot speak strongly enough on this issue. It is imperative, perhaps more now today than ever before, that we realize once again that we are going before the Lord.

It's important because He is once again planning to visit the places we go to. Every city, every town, every store, every person, every hamlet and village in the world will see Him again, very soon.

Jesus is coming again. We are to go forth before Him and prepare the world to receive Him. That means to shine the light on Him.

I have no heaven to put you in and no hell to keep you out of. So, I shine the light on Him

    His list first

The problem with quoting Jesus is that He is such a spiritual heavy weight. I can't measure up.
Same problem with Peter and Paul. You know they were Apostles and all. The simple but effective prayers of George Mueller would blow your mind. Such a powerful man of the ministry.

But I came across the prayer of a man who was not an evangelist. Not a revivalist. Not so called, even in the ministry. He spent most of his life doing and accomplishing worldly things. He wasn't famous for writing Godly books, or hymns or going on missions. Wasn't even a preacher.

Just a man. A soldier, fought in a couple of wars. Became a statesman, a politician. Helped start a nation, form a government, became president.

If ever someone had reason to have a large prayer list. It was George Washington. Can you imagine his prayer list?

" O' God help me overcome and defeat the best equipped and most well trained military in the world". As he prayed for the continental congress, because he needed their support and their success. Can you just see his list of names?

Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry. All He did with his prayers was win the war, become president and helped change the course of modern history.

But before he started on his list, each day he had a daily prayer he prayed first. It was a kind of list. In his own handwriting from his personal journal.

    Daily He prayed,
    "Almighty God...
I yield to you humble and hearty thanks that you have preserved me from the danger of the night past, and brought me to the light of the day, and the comforts thereof, a day which is consecrated to your own service and for your own honor.

Let my heart, therefore, Gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of it, that I may not do my own works, but wait on you, and discharge those weighty duties that you require of me.

Give me grace to hear you calling on me in your Word, that it may be wisdom, righteousness, reconciliation and peace to the saving of the soul in the day of the Lord Jesus.

Grant that I may hear it with reverence, receive it with meekness, mingle it with faith, and that it may accomplish in me, Gracious God, the good work for which thou has sent it.

Bless my family, kindred, friends and country, be our God and guide this day and for ever for His sake, who lay down in the Grave and arose again for us, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen."
--From the Prayer Journal of George Washington

All He did with his prayers was win the war, become president and helped change the course of modern history. Consider what your prayers are accomplishing and how much time you spend praying His list before you start yours. How much time you spend seeking first the kingdom of God rather then yours.

Today, Repent of praying your list before His. Spend any amount of time on His list before you pray yours. A couple of minutes or more. Each time you pray.

If you are not sure what should be on his list I suggest that you start with the Lord's prayer and progress from there.
I dare you. See how much this effects your relationship with Jesus.
And the next time you have an opportunity to talk about Jesus, the results will amaze you.

    What to tell em. 3

I believe a lot of the trouble is the type of self centered prayers that we tend to pray in today's Christianity.

First, way to many don't hardly take the time to acknowledge God in their daily lives.
Second, way to many of us have a prayer lists that consist of what we want, or think we need. Lists that consist of what we think others want or need. Either because they requested the prayers or maybe we just decided for them what they needed.

Its a small wonder that when it comes to selling Jesus Christ, we just don't seem to have much punch in what we say.

I'd like to share something that God has taught me. Perhaps it can make a difference in your life too. It's a type of prayer list.

Consider the Lord's prayer, Our Father who is in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Do we understand what we just prayed for?

See it's good to recite our prayers, especially this one. But we need to be in touch with the fact that this is God's prayer list. We have just prayed for something. His name to be hallowed. That's first on His list and should be first on mine.

To hold in glorious reverence, to magnify, to glorify, to worship and stand in absolute awe of the very name of God. That His name should be exalted throughout all the world.

Starting with my world. How many pray for that, outside of reciting the Lords prayer?

Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Can I give you another way to pray that? I mean say that.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matt 6:33

What things? All the things you have been praying for without this part in your prayer.
See ... Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. What are you praying for now? That His dreams, His aspirations, His desires, ... His list would be done. Not yours ... His.

Before you pray for your list or anybody else's, Pray for His. All the other things will be given to you as well.

But first seek His kingdom and His righteousness. First pray for His list. That is how you get the other things you have prayed about. Anyway that is what Jesus said.

What to tell em. Part two

    Because I know Jesus ...
I believe in prayer, healing, and faith, love, and hope. Always hope. I believe in Healing of the mind, healing of the heart, and healing of the body.

I am saved, delivered, and totally healed from the ailments of this world.
Because of Jesus in my life,
My yesterday is forgiven; My today is full of hope; and my future is absolutely sure and forever.

That is the Stuff people need to start with, concerning Jesus..
When you talk about Jesus, don't talk about His majesty, talk about the lepers, drunks prostitutes. Instead tell how He told em to stop sinning, but loved and accepted em. Never condemned any one except the Pharisee

    What to tell em!

That He is King of Kings and Lord of Lord means nothing to those who are not believers.
Tell em He died as a payment for their sins and they declare, so what? Or ask, what sins?
Lamb of God without spot or blemish, ... they say yeh, then what?
Tell them He lived, died, rose again. ... means very little if they don't understand the significance, or believe it. If they aren't of Jewish background. Save your breath.

But what he has done for you. ... Now that is different.
It does not matter how logical ... or illogical Jesus is..
What matters is ... You and I sometimes are hurting......, we have problems......... we need answers and we need help.

    Listen up,
Because I have Jesus in my life ...
I believe in something bigger then any thing this world can bring. People need to know that!
I believe in a love that is unconditional........, I have a future that is always brighter, then whatever is going on, and I have a life that will last literally forever.

Because Jesus is in my life I am my brother's keeper,
I truly care about others and how they are doing....

    Because of Jesus,
I love my neighbor, and I have their best interest at heart..........,
SHHHHH !! I pray for my enemy, I didn't always handle em like that.

My beliefs run deep and I understand that people, cultures, ideas, plans and intentions can and do change.

Jesus however will never change! His thoughts and position on any issue will never change because He is solid, and I can hold on. No matter what, I can hold on.
    People need to hear that.

I have an inner strength that comes with a belief in a God that is bigger then whatever I am facing.

    Pray His list first

FIRST ...HIS PRAYER LIST ...THEN YOURS

    Dr. Rueben. A. Torrey Influential American Preacher and Evangelist. During the 1920's. Author of 40 books on prayer, evangelism and revival. ... was won to Christ though the witnessing of a Godly Mother;

Sam Jones converted at the age of 24, by His own Father, went on to become the greatest Methodist evangelist since the Wesley's, and one of the greatest gospel preachers of all time.

George Mueller was a living demonstration of the reality of the Scripture, "But my God shall supply all your needs ... lead to Christ by a friend

    John R. Mott was a long-serving leader of the YMCA. He received the Nobel peace prize in 1946 for his work in establishing and strengthening international Christian student organizations that worked to promote peace. by a teacher;
George Whitefiled by a book; and Count Nicholas Ludwig von Zinzendorf, considered by many, the father of modern missions, by glancing at a picture.

My wife Margaret, by me over the phone, before we ever met in person. Me sitting alone, with no human input at all.

The point being that There is no prescribed method for sharing a "testimony", except that it be "Christ-centered", and "spirit-directed". Are we in the place where we can testify of the glory of God in our lives? Are we making the most of every opportunity to testify for Him?

It has been said, that the most powerful thing you can share is simply, What Jesus has done for you in your life. What difference has He made to you and those you care about?

There is a verse in the bible ... Did you know that?
"And then brethren, when I came to you, I came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, but declaring unto you the testimony of God." I Cor. 2:1

The Testimony of God ... His story thru me.
Just tell em what Jesus has done for you
Not only do you just tell em what Jesus has done for you ... You need to tell em. Because nothing else is going to make any sense to them.

To assemble or not to assemble

The reasons we join churches or attend services are for the most part traditional. Having more to do with tradition and what we think is an acceptacle habit, showing our membership in the body of Christ.

We speak of attending services as if we had really done something worthy of note. We mention we were there Sunday morning, Wednesday night, and at prayer breakfast. We also mention wether or not we saw you. Often just to make sure you saw us.

Church attendance for way to many of us , has become an idol.

We must be there, the entire family, dressed special. We can't dress like we were going to the grocery store even though we should still be Christians at the store as well as at church.

We must all bring our bibles, even though we don't open them much at home. Gotta have em at church.

The music needs to soothe us, or excite us, or entertain us, or help us to worship, or something.

The preaching needs to entertain us, feed us, teach us, encourage us, or motivate us to do something.

We must be part of the right denomination. Or better yet a Non denomination. The youth ministry had better be up to snuff, children's ministry fun, and a singles group. The building needs to be adequate for all this God activity and with a nursery.

So When we decide to be miffed and not go to church , our self rightous reasons usally have to do with our disatifaction with these tradional habits or at least the people involved with them.

We act like our opinion, is the issue.

None of which has any thing to do with God's reasons for us to assemble.

    ~The Bible says~
"And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching".

    ~The Bottom line is~
    Think about all the others
in order to stir up love and good works among them.
Do not to fail to show up and join in - not to
just be there, but to be there to encourage.
You can't do your job if you are not there.
If some are the hands and some are the eyes and you are the foot...........
If you are not there to encourage someone, then they may not be encouraged at all, and the church is then handicapped. The foot is missing.
We are all a part of the body and if we are not there to do our part the church is then crippled
and it is our fault. Not the fault of others.

Some would say that God will have someone else do our part. But we don't have the right to assume that.

    ~Church is~.......
    Not to entertain you
Not to teach or instruct you
(We are to study to show ourselves
approved rightly dividing the word of truth)

Not for worship, (worship is supposed to be 24-7)

It is for a celebration because we have given ourselves to love and good works and encouraged each other all week and now we need to refresh and celebrate. We need to stir up love and good works and encourage one another for the up coming week.

Going to church should be about the people of God. serving, Loving , and living for God.

When you attend church you bring something that only you can bring. If you are not there then it is missing. It is your fault. Not the fault of the church.

    When praying in private

"Seek ye first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added unto you."

So in prayer, seek first, never second, or third, but always first "Him" and "His" kingdom.

The Lord said,"Go into your closet and close the door."

This is not a time for prayer about finances, Family, health. Not about intercesory prayer, corporate prayer,or worship of any kind.

He said, "close the door", because He desperately wants to talk to you about you. Your question should be this: Lord if you were to sit next to me now, just the two of us, What would you talk to me about?

This is probably the most neglected type of prayer from our Lords' point of view. As we come to Him with our needs wants and desires we often forget that He also has a desire to talk to us about
    us.

If it is true that prayer is really two-way communication, then Scripture is God's prayer for us; and our reaction to scripture is our prayer back to Him.

Time with God, this thing called "prayer", is not for lazy people. Some seem to think prayer is lost time--that somehow time spent in the presence of Almighty God is wasted.

When, in fact, what people who are consumed with busyness and materialism consider "lost" time, is in fact, the very center of life.

Daily communion with the Son of God. Time spent with God talking about you, and only you, will pay incredible dividends for you, your family, and all that know you and come into contact with you.

Say, "Lord, if it was only the two of us here, what would you talk to ME about"? This may be the fastest prayer you have ever had answered.

    Devotions that are personal

Devotions imply a commitment of absolute proportions.

It can make us feel so spiritual, so pious, so commited to our Lord to spend a few moments a day centered on Him.

We are sure to fill this time with reading daily devotionals, quoting scripture, singing, praising God, worship, prayer, all to keep ourselves very very busy during this time. This is so we can avoid making any (personal) commitments to Jesus.

    Our devotion to God,
Our commitment to love and follow Jesus, the very things that will infuse us with inner strength, allow God to pour His power out through us, and cause the Holy Spirit to use us to impact the people around us. We avoid like it is something sinful.

Christian devotions can be a wonderful experiance and time of personal growth. But must never be so full of what others have experienced, that we fail to devote and give ourselves FULLY to God, and to commit ourselves, to allow Him, to TRULY BE OUR LORD.

    Can you do this ?.......
Instead of praying, "Lord I commit my time to you that I might somehow glorify you". Because that will leave you still in control of your time.
Say instead, "Lord I give, as a gift, to you, all of my time, all of it, for you to use anyway you want".

Instead of starting your day with a prayer that says, "Lord here are all the things I need to do today. Will you help, guide and bless me?" –
    Instead, let's pray today,
"Lord, I'm available! Help me use my day to honor you and do your will."

Just wait and see how those annoying distractions turn into anointed directions!
Do you believe He is Lord? Do you trust Him?

Instead of saying, "Lord I commit my tithe to your work that your work may be accomplished". Because that still leaves me in control of my money.
Say instead "Lord, I give to you, as a gift, totally, all of my financial resources to use as you and you alone see fit".
Do you believe Him when He said "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His rightesnous and all these things will be added"?

Instead of commiting ten minutes, or an hour, or whatever to prayer that He might be glorified. Because that leaves you in control of what you pray for and what you pray about.
Instead Just say, "Lord I take my entire prayer life, all of it, and I give it, as a gift, to you to use, however you please.
(You will probably throw away your prayer list.)

No matter what you read, what you pray, How much you praise, or worship, or for how long or how often. Until it becomes personal, and you give it as a free gift to God, you haven't yet had a devotion.
