IDOLATRY (part 22) Modern Day Idolatry Dear children of light, since we have looked at the basics of what the true church is, starting back in part 10, now we will begin to look at the false church. I have avoided naming a specific church or religion, although I have no problem with it, that is not the purpose of this study, and there is excellent information on the actual names of various cults in many other places, including this site. My point here is to aid the saints in understanding what is the true and only standard God’s word in ALL things. I pray it may be clear by now that as the true church is defined by its absolute submission to the worship, love and obedience to the Godhead, sound Biblical doctrine, application and practices, so the false church is also defined about how distant it is from these aforementioned measures. God’s word, correctly interpreted, applied and obeyed in practice , not in word only, is the final standard for the true church. Let us start first with the institutional church this type of false church often defines itself as a physical building, organization, or institution and that is what it is. Some try to defend the institutional church, but saints we know that Jesus did not die on the cross and rise again to save a facility, neither is He coming back for a facility. He died and rose again to save sinners, and He will return for His saints, the true church. Idolatry still exists today, openly, secretly, and often subtly, that is not obvious or apparent as such. It goes without saying, dear children of God that when we make anything more important than God, that thing becomes an idol, whether it is seen or unseen. Let us search our hearts, lives, and minds to identify any idol, or deal with even the temptation of it. Let us refuse to compromise by willingly renouncing them, counting on God’s love, power and strength to turn away from all such. And so will we do by the power of our God, who strengthens us to be more than conquerors, through Christ Jesus who loves us. Beloved children of the day, it is important to see that I have not used the names of any particular denomination or religion, for the same reason I did not use the names of any idols, because the content, meaning deeds , works, actions, arguments for and behaviors of a thing is more important than the name it bears. Every thing that uses or claims the name of Christ does not necessarily belong to Christ-by their fruit ye shall know them. Next time may Jesus cause us to meet here again and we will continue on with the study. love serola

IDOLATRY (part 21) Modern Day Idolatry Dear saints, I will comment on the second area of idolatry among the true church, and I would also give an answer to the question posed in the last post. Here is the second type of idolatry found among (but never in) the true church. Again I am not painting with a broad brush, for there are countless saints, who never have and never will bow their knees to any idol. Let us go on then, and I will start with this scripture which I believe will be basic to our understanding: 1Co 1:10 Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. 1Co 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 1Co 3:4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? 1Co 3:5 Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? 1Co 3:6 I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. 1Co 3:7 So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Dear children of light, despite our brother Paul, the apostle’s warning against such divisions, some have made idols of the apostles today, doing the same things that Paul warned them not to do. We have various divisions among the saints some claiming to be a “Pauline” church, and only following those books of the bible believed to be written by brother Paul, the apostle; others lay claim to or even follow John the Baptist. Brother Paul gives the remedy for this situation, which has never lost its validity and is still the answer for us today-see 1Co. 1:10, above, and notice dear ones it is written to the saints and not the cults or any non-believers, so our brother Paul the apostle is not talking about compromising the word of God, but laying aside carnality, rightly interpreting the scriptures and obeying Jesus, rather than following personally held beliefs, opinions, and preferences. The pastor and others in the flock were standing around looking forlorn at the now unrecognizable wreckage of their facility strewn about, and this paraphrased dialogue ensued: the pastor said the church is destroyedbut thank God nobody got hurt, and we will build the church again. I have seen quite a few scenarios on T.V. like this. This scenario is repeated from the prior post( part 20) with the question of how could this be rewritten to honor God. Holy people of God let’s first examine this dialogue, can you see the identity switch? The saints became “nobody” and the building became “the church”. We know that while buildings of brick and stone can be destroyed, the true church NEVER can. Such scenes give a poor witness to our nation. I prayerfully believe If this pastor had been able to lay hold on what is the true church he might have said: “ Thank God , none of the people of God, the true church were injured. Only our meeting place was destroyed, and we hope to rebuild it.” Beloveds of Jesus our Messiah, let us stop here and next we will look at types of false churches, and more types of idolatry- modern day. love serola ,

IDOLATRY (part 20) Modern Day Idolatry Blessings and thanks to the Lord Jesus, whose way is always right, and praise Him for the Lord is good All the time. Thank you Holy Father, regardless of our earthly circumstances, whether in joy or heaviness-thank you, for allowing us to belong to you in your eternal kingdom. Thank you Holy Spirit, for being our teacher, and so much more, helping us even when we do not know what to pray, you look into our hearts and carry our needs to God with words that cannot be uttered. Now, dear brothers and sisters I want to continue on with some of the detrimental things that happen when the church facility is deified. I will give you an example of how subtle some of these thing are. I was looking at a t.v. broadcast. Apparently a storm or tornado had torn down a church facility. The pastor and others in the flock were standing around looking forlorn at the now unrecognizable wreckage of their facility strewn about, and this paraphrased dialogue ensued: the pastor said: the church is destroyed, but thank God nobody got hurt, and we will build the church again. I have seen quite a few scenarios on t.v. like this. I invite your comments, dear saints, on what is the problem with this dialogue, how you would rewrite this dialogue, that would please and give glory to Jesus, then I will post my answer. I was on my way to gather with the saints for worship services this Sunday, on the way, I had the chance to talk with some other saints, although we were not going to the same place. After listening much to their conversation, about the positive things of their church, the choir, etc. I mentioned that Jesus did not die on the cross and revive for any building, and that He is not coming back for one, but for the saints. They were quite startled (although I had thought they would not be). They responded with hearty “Amens” and relief, and rightly so, for the saints were not made for the facility. I want to say once again I am not painting with a broad brush here, for there are multitudes of overseers and their flock who have knowledge that the facility is nothing. But there are some who do not have this knowledge. I believe some of the multiple problems that happens when the building is deified, is that the saints are denigrated. The overseers exclude themselves from biblical church discipline, allowing destructive and inappropriate behaviors to flourish, and the teachings become fast food spirituality. Like much fast food, it can fill one up, and make one fat while offering little real nourishment. At the conclusion of this study on idolatry I will prayerfully give some God centered answers on what can be done to remedy these problems. The study will be continued and we will note some other forms of idolatry that can still be found today. God bless you kings and priests, made so by the precious blood of our risen Saviour. I pray our Lord will join us together here again next time. Love serola

IDOLATRY (part 19) Modern Day Idolatry All praise to our God, who alone is to be highly exalted, and given first place in all things, dear friends of Jesus. May His name be greatly glorified in heaven and on earth, for to Him alone belongs the might, majesty, dominion, honor and worship, dear children of the day. I will post some scriptures, which I feel will be helpful, and feel free to look up others elsewhere if you like. 1Co 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Ac 7:48 Howbeit the most High dwelleth not in temples made with hands; as saith the prophet, Eph 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Eph 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone; Eph 2:21 In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: Eph 2:22 In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Ac 7:49 Heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool: what house will ye build me? saith the Lord: or what is the place of my rest? Ac 7:50 Hath not my hand made all these things? 1Co 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son. 2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto ALL good works. 1Pe 2:5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ. Col 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. **(This aspect of the saints in relationship to one another is also very important to God and us.) Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. 2Co 6:16 And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Col 3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. 2Ti 3:16 ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2Ti 3:17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto ALL good works. Doctrine means teachings or instructions of the gospel as handed down through Jesus our Lord to the apostles.
The study will continue, and I pray that we will feel free to go back over these scriptures, personalizing them by putting “I” and me in some places, and then go over them again putting “us” and “we” in places so that, the Holy Spirit can deepen and nourish our understanding on these passages for us as individual saints and the body as a whole. His love for us is always complete and full, never diminishing. We can also clearly understand where our God lives and dwells, and that it has NOTHING to do with human made bricks and stone. God alone rules! These scriptures inform this study, and there are others too numerous to post here. I will continue with some of the detrimental things that occur when the church facility is deified. The study will continue and I hope to see you then, dear children of light. love
