Just Two
"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments." Matthew 22:36-40
Too simple? Whilst we memorize the Ten Commandments and duly try to follow them, we seem to forget about the Two Commandments. Just two. But if only we had those two down in our hearts then we couldn't "break" any of the ten, could we? And while we are just sure we love the Lord, are we sure we care for others as much as we care about ourselves?

Even Today
But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do." 1 Samuel 8:6-9
How often do we still reject the Kingship of the Lord and determine that we know what's best for our own lives? How often do we pray faithfully for something that is not in His will... only to be given it?
