    Daughters of Sarah   1Peter 3: 1-6

    Likewise, ye wives, [be] in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;

    While they behold your chaste conversation [coupled] with fear.

    Whose adorning let it not be that outward [adorning] of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;

    But [let it be] the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, [even the ornament] of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

    For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands:

    Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.  1Pet.3:1-6

    Where are the daughters of Sarah

    And of those holy women of old,

    Blessed mothers and wives in Israel,

    Whose faith in Jehovah was bold?

    These were the daughters of Sarah,

    Who trembled in the presence of God,

    And conducted themselves in quietness,

    While on this dark earth they trod.

    Praise for the offspring of Sarah

    Whose souls so inwardly adorned,

    With grace that is altogether lovely,

    But here in this world is scorned.

    There is a need for the daughters of Sarah

    In the world that we live in today,

    For women of faith, who stand firm in the truth,

    As examples to those going astray.

    Give us now daughters of Sarah,

    Obedient, patient and strong,

    With love for their husbands and children,

    Consistently doing no wrong.

    Rise up ye daughters of Sarah!

    From the trends of this world now turn.

    Fear not the women of Babylon;

    But fear Him Who is soon to return!

    The aged women likewise, that [they be] in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things;That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,[To be] discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Titus 2:3-5

    Separation Unto God

    Nothing Between

    by Charles Albert Tindley

    Nothing between my soul and my Saviour,

    naught of this world's delusive dream;

    I have renounced all sinful pleasure;

    Jesus is mine, there's nothing between.

    Nothing between, like worldly pleasure;

    habits of life, though harmless they seem,

    must not my heart from him ever sever;

    he is my all, there's nothing between.

    Nothing between my soul and my Saviour,

    so that his blessed face may be seen;

    nothing preventing the least of his favor;

    keep the way clear!  let nothing between.

    Charles Albert Tindley (1851-1933) was an author and a composer.  He was born into slavery at Berlin, Maryland, and left an orphan at age five.  He taught himself to read and to write, and eventually mastered Hebrew and Greek.  He served as pastor of the Calvary Methodist Episcopal Church, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which reached a membership of 12,500 people.  Mr. Tindley wrote many Gospel songs, including "I'll Overcome Some Day," which later became the inspiration for the Civil Rights Movement theme song, "We Shall Overcome."

    The Shepherd

    He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry [them] in his bosom, [and] shall gently lead those that are with young.  (Isa 40:11)

    How relentless is his love,

    That reaches out to thee!

    How endless are His thoughts of care,

    If only you would see.

    Your aching heart, your troubled mind;

    The anguish of your soul,

    He’s felt your pain, endured your grief,

    And would your heart console.

    But strong are we, and he so weak,

    So we turn away,

    The one who comes to us so meekly,

    To help us in the way.

    And so he waits; and ever waits,

    At every turn and bend,

    Gentle, lowly, hardly noticed,

    His straying sheep to tend.

    For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.  How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?  And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that [sheep], than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.  Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.  Matthew 18:11-14
