Ephesians 3:16-20
LACK
16 I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen
you with power through his Spirit in your inner being,
17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.
And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love,
18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people,
to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ,
19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you
may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.
20 Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all
we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us
Commentary:
Lack: The absence of an item of necessity; to be short or
deficient in; to experience an insufficiency in what you require.
According to the scripture above, abundance should be a part
of the Christian experience, not lack. It says that you would easily be
overcome if not for the power working on the inside of you to provide more than
you could even ask for.
So, let's examine lack.
Are you missing something that you once had plenty of but is now all
gone? If so, what in the world happened
to it; where did it go? Think about that period of time in your life when you
did not lack this. Why is it missing
now? Was there a famine? Did you give it
away? Perhaps you suffered a loss of
income and were unable to adjust your budget accordingly so, as a result, the
department stores and dealerships you visited last year have caused lack in
your life this year.
Was it stolen? If so, who took it? Was it someone you were
close to not knowing they would cause a deficit in your life? Do they know they stole from you (some people
have no idea of the hardship they are causing by requiring so much)? More importantly, is this person still making
withdrawals? Are they still in your life
subtracting from you?
Well, I've got good news!
The time is coming when your lack will be reversed. The book of Isaiah
says,
"For your shame ye shall have double; and for confusion
they shall rejoice in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess
the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them" Isaiah 61:7
If you read this passage, you will find it speaks about an
appointed time that Isaiah calls “the acceptable year” or “the Year of the
Lord's favor” (in the New International Version) when God will repay all that
has been taken away. In God's time, His
favor toward us will be seen. He will return what was lost AND what was stolen
from His people. Whatever you've lost, God has already prepared double to
replace it.
But, as the passage indicates, it will only happen in God's
time. If you act outside of God's timing to regain what you've lost, you will
only experience more lack. God, who is
able to do exceeding, abundantly and above all we ask has the power to reverse
lack. And, according to Ephesians 3:20, this power is working within us RIGHT
NOW. You may be in lack today, but be patient. Your "acceptable year"
is coming when God will bless you with double the amount you lost; more than
you could ask or think according to the power that is at work within YOU!
