2 Corinthians 10:2-6
Mind Armor
2 I beg you that when I come I may not have to be as I
expect to be toward some people who think that we live by the standards of this
world.
3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the
world does.
4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the
world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds.
5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets
itself up against the knowledge of God,I and we take captive every thought to
make it obedient to Christ.
6 And we will be ready to punish every act of disobedience,
once your obedience is complete.
Commentary:
The book of 2 Corinthians mandates that we capture every thought which disagrees with
the knowledge we have about Christ,
"We demolish arguments and EVERY pretension that sets
itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive EVERY thought to
make it obedient to Christ..." 2
Corinthians 10:5
The passage says to bring EVERY thought into obedience. In
other words, any thought that is not
Christ-like should be arrested and detained without bail.
Your thought life is important; therefore, it must be
protected. Paul emphasizes in the book
of Romans that your level of attachment to this world directly correlates to
the condition of your thought life,
"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind..." Romans 12:2.
Paul says do not conform your thinking to this worlds ideas,
but instead be transformed by totally renewing the ideas in your mind. The things you believe in your mind will
absolutely determine your effectiveness. If you believe everything the bible
said about who you are and what you can do, you will be successful in this
world. But, if you believe what the
world is teaching; that you are powerless and vulnerable, then you've lost the
battle in your mind and therefore will ultimately lose in the struggle.
To win in this world, you must completely renew your
thinking; you must get rid of old negative thought patterns and embrace new
ideas. To be successful, you must ARMOR
YOUR MIND.
One critical step in
the process of armoring your mind is to receive the gospel. You need the Word of God or you will have no
new ideas to renew your mind to. This is
yet another place where many Christians go wrong. Some of the ideas we are taught are not
biblical and, unfortunately, are just as damaging as those being purged. The worst are ideas which separate and
isolate us from each other. This is the warfare Paul is pleading we recognize.
To fight the real enemy, we must turn to our real weapon.
Capture new ideas to combat old, wrong imaginations which come against the Word
of God. When we develop in this area, no weapon formed against us will be able
to conquer us.
