"...he that received seed into good ground is he that received THE WORD, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth some an hundred fold, some sixty, some thirty..." Matthew 13:23

    Luke 1:39-45

    Mothers

39 At that time Mary got ready and hurried to a town in the hill country of Judea,
40 where she entered Zechariah’s home and greeted Elizabeth.
41 When Elizabeth heard Mary’s greeting, the baby leaped in her womb, and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
42 In a loud voice she exclaimed: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the child you will bear!
43 But why am I so favored, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
44 As soon as the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy.
45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

    Commentary

To all active mothers; soon-to-be mothers; mother-in-laws; grand and great grandmothers: You must fellowship with each other as often as possible and for as long as possible...

There is nothing on Earth more profound than the fellowship of mothers. It is awesome when women who are nourishing the very fate of this world come together and declare the blessings of God. I tell you, the spirit moves when mothers proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  Luke 1:39-56 illustrates this to be true.

Mary and Elizabeth were two women who had found favor with God.  Both of them were pregnant with children who would achieve greatness.  Elizabeth carried John the Baptist; a child who, as an adult, would impact his world at large.  He would be held by others as one of the greatest men alive and be compared to the prophet Elias, but would describe himself as merely a voice crying out in the wilderness. He would be a great messenger. His mission: to prepare the way for Mary’s child, the message: Jesus Christ.  Mary’s child would do miracles, heal the sick, feed the hungry and ultimately impact all of creation.  Mary’s child would be appreciated by some, but despised and rejected by most.  He would suffer and die on a wooden cross, then rise from the dead to pave the way for our salvation.

We don’t know the exact circumstances that led these women to fellowship.  We only know that Mary got up one morning and, with great urgency, set out on a journey to see Elizabeth.  The bible says that Mary traveled to Elizabeth’s house “with haste”, meaning Mary made her way to Juda as fast as her pregnant body could carry her. It seems that Mary was in need of something.  She moved with great excitement, great anticipation and great purpose. Mary was enthusiastic about seeing Elizabeth.   There must have been something great she expected to receive from her visit.

Upon Mary's arrival, we find that Elizabeth was just as excited, if not more, to see Mary.  Elizabeth, at the first site of Mary, immediately began to shout and testify.  She proclaimed that Mary was blessed and the seed Mary carried was blessed.  She shouted that Mary was soon to be the mother of our Lord and Savior.

Question: How did Elizabeth know this? Who told Elizabeth that Mary was carrying the redeemer of mankind? What gave her the conviction to proclaim it as truth the way she did?

Answer: The spirit of God revealed it to her.  The scripture says that the moment these two women met, the Holy Ghost fell over Elizabeth and under His influence, she began to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  She cried out, “…the mother of MY LORD has come to visit me…” Even the baby in Elizabeth’s womb felt the spirit and leaped for joy (Luke 1:41) launching his destiny as the one who would pave the way for our redeemer. Then, Elizabeth told Mary what I believe Mary was in need of which had brought her to Elizabeth’s door.  Elizabeth gave Mary a piece of life-changing encouragement that would carry Mary through the remainder of her pregnancy. She said:

“Blessed is she that believed: for there will be a performance of those things which were told to her from the Lord”.  Luke 1:45

Isn’t that a powerful message?  Blessed is she that believes! You can expect a performance from the Lord. In other words; what ever you believe the Lord will do, it shall come to pass! Elizabeth had preached a sermon to Mary that day. Soon Mary couldn’t help but to begin rejoicing, also under the influence of the Holy Ghost.  She sang out in great admiration and gratitude of the miracle which was forming on the inside of her.  Mary fellowshipped with Elizabeth for 3 months, and then returned home.  There is no doubt in my mind that she arrived back home full of the spirit.  She no doubt felt renewed. She no doubt felt powerful. She must have felt like a conquer; like she could overcome the world.

There is nothing on Earth more profound than the fellowship of mothers. Nothing in the world is quite like it. God lends His spirit to mothers for the necessary task of nourishing a new nation of believers.  God gives them great power and brings to pass what ever a mother believes the Lord will do.  Blessed is she that believes! There will be a performance from the Lord!
