Recapping a great 2006 -Looking forward to 2007!

Recapping a great 2006 -Looking forward to 2007!

What an incredible roller coaster ride 2006 has been for us here at C.T.L.  God has shown Himself to be the awesome God that He is!  This has been a history making year for C.T.L. and the community.

As always, we kicked off the New Year with our annual joint watch night service with Hartsville 1st P.H.C. and Pastor Alvin Rogers who started us off with a powerful word for 2006.

Our annual C.T.L. Sweetheart Banquet was a blast in February as Brother Jerry and Sister Hazel Watford were crowned our Valentine King and Queen for 2006.  What a wonderful time of fellowship.

One of the highlights of the year was the "Seek God For the City 2006" 40 day prayer campaign, which ran from March 1 to Palm Sunday, April 9.  Folks gained so much spiritual benefit from it, that we are doing it again for 2007, beginning February 22.  Be watching for more details on how you can get involved in "Seek God For the City 2007"!

That was coupled with another powerful and history-making event in March, as we held the "Tearing Down Strongholds - Advancing the Kingdom" Campaign.  For the first time in the history of C.T.L. (formerly Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church) a community-wide revival was held with racial and denominational barriers coming down.  Black and white pastors from various churches and fellowships around the area came together and preached the word with some powerful results.  As far as anyone could recall, it was the first time in the community that this has ever been done (but not the last, if the Lord tarries) and the first time that black pastors have preached from this pulpit.

Another history-making event was the transition of the church name from Lamar Pentecostal Holiness Church to Call To Life Family Worship Center.  The leadership of L.P.H.C. came to Pastor Mike and felt that the church's ministry in Lamar had reached a transitional place and wanted to start 2006 with a fresh name.  As they began to submit and consider a long list of around a hundred-plus names, they prayed that the Holy Spirit would give a name that would identify their purpose and mission and that the community could grasp and identify with, as well.

The new name that came about after months of prayer and consideration was nothing short of a miracle within itself.  It would take another article being published, just about that alone, to describe how the Spirit of God moved and dealt with people here.

So, on Sunday, April  30th, 2006 the congregation and friends of the church held a celebration to formally introduce and recognize the new name:  CALL TO LIFE FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER.

Bishop Terry Fowler, then superintendent of the S.C.I.P.H.C., came and delivered a powerful, on-time word for the event.  What a powerful service it was, followed by a celebration meal in the dining hall.

The folks at C.T.L. sense that God desires to bring about and breathe new life, not only into the church, but into the entire community.  God wants to breathe fresh life into some of the dry places in the surrounding area.

This is actually the second name change that has taken place in the church's long 60 plus year history.  The original name was Mt. Moriah P.H.C., later changed to Lamar P.H.C.  Now, officially as of May 1, 2006, the church has been operating under the name "CALL TO LIFE FAMILY WORSHIP CENTER".

Also, in May the local "National Day of Prayer" rally held here for the Lamar area was a resounding success as pastors, politicians, civil servants and others gathered together for a time of prayer which crossed over denominational and cultural barriers.

June saw another wonderful Vacation Bible School as the kids learned that "Jesus Makes A World Of Difference" during the V.B.S. theme, "TRADING PLACES"!

July was a time of difficult transition as my dad, Billy Parnell, went home to be with the Lord.  How sorely missed he will be, but one day there will be a sweet reunion on Heaven's shore.  Thank God that in Christ death is swallowed up in victory!  Hallelujah!!!

August was a powerful time with former World Wrestling Champion, Nikita Koloff in our "Prevailing With God" Crusade.  Brother Nikita, formerly known as the "Russian Nightmare", is now known as the "Devil's Nightmare"!  What a tremendous week as folks came to know Christ and were born anew into the family of God!  Brother Koloff will also be coming back in August 2007, Lord willing.

September, some of our area churches brought together a special 9/11 memorial service featuring Pastor Stan Kennedy, guitarist extraordinaire, and Eric Horner, former musician with the band of Country Music Superstar, Lee Greenwood.  What a powerful service it was.

In October, C.T.L. moved to another level in the Lord as we entered into the "New Season Revival" as pastor Becky Boykin brought one of the most powerful words on the Kingdom of God and the apostolic anointing and five-fold ministry!  Wow!  We had to extend the meeting an extra evening.

Another historical event in October is when one of our teens, Tabatha Pollard, joined as the first new member since changing the ministry name to Call To Life Family Worship Center!  God bless you Tab!

Then, we finally received approval in October to become a local host site for Angel Food Ministries.  In just a little over a week's time, our first order was for November for 54 regular units!  Then in December, 89 orders were placed.  This is a tremendous need that the Lord has provided us the opportunity to help fill.  For more information on this call Bonnie Parnell, Host Site Director, at 843-326-7005.

December 3rd, we welcomed back Eric Horner, who was an awesome blessing as he and wife Debbie, shared the love of Jesus in concert.

We look forward to 2007 with great anticipation as we kick off on December 31 with another powerful Watch Night Celebration, this time hosted by Hartsville 1st P.H.C. and pastor Alvin Rogers!

Then January 7-10 its "FRESH FIRE 2007" here at C.T.L. with Danny Turner; January 14th begins a 40 Day Spiritual Journey to a more "Generous Life"; January 21st we recognize "Sanctity of Human Life Day, and we round out the month on January 28th with "The Tyners" coming to C.T.L. for 2 - that's right - 2 powerful services at 10:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.  And that's just the beginning of 2007!  For details on these and more upcoming dates and events, call 843-326-7005, or go to our web site at:  www.CallToLife.org .

We hope to see you this coming 2007 and may you and yours have the best New Year ever in the Lord's blessing is our prayer!

    Pastor Mike

Christmas - It Really Is All About Him!

Christmas - It Really Is All About Him!

Matthew 5:17 "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil."

Every year as the Christmas season rolls around, our attention is drawn to the Christ who came to our world long, long ago in Bethlehem.  However, there are not many at all who thoughtfully consider why He came.  Have you ever meditated on those verses of Scripture in which the Lord Himself declares why He came?  They are bursting with powerful significance.  Matthew 5:17 above is one of such verses.  In addition to its explicit contextual importance, it suggests a magnificent train of thought which we can gainfully touch on here.

First, the Lord Jesus is the fulfillment of prophecy.  In the Gospel bearing his name, John makes an extraordinary little comment in his account of the crucifixion.  "After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst."  What a flash of revelation that one little statement sheds for us in regard to the mind of Jesus as He suffered on that cross!  His omniscient mind rolled back through the prophecies of the Old Testament Scriptures as He hung there.  He knew that all of the prophetic descriptions of His death were now fulfilled, except for one.  In Psalm 22:15 it was pre-written, "My tongue cleaveth to my jaws"; therefore, "that the Scripture might be fulfilled", Jesus cried, "I thirst"!  Wow!

Consider also, that Christ is the fulfillment of history.  Gaze into that Bethlehem manger again.  One day, those chubby little hands shall brandish the scepter of completely global dominion.  Read history apart from that little Babe, and it is a meaningless tragedy without triumph, a weird story without any sort of moral significance, a riddle without a resolution.

Take a look back through the centuries and one cannot help but see the successive heaps of ruins.  One behind another, civilizations have collapsed, cultural systems have folded, and ambitious aspirations have perished.  Our own extravagant, commercialized, twenty-first century society is now in huge dread of nuclear eradication.  Is there no stable throne?  Is there no king who never dies?  Is there no conqueror of iniquity, wickedness,  sin and death?  Is there no predestined lofty purpose of history?  Yes, there is, hallelujah!  For the Babe of Bethlehem who died as the Sin-bearer on the cross of Golgotha has risen and ascended, and is soon returning to the earth as World-Ruler!!!

This is the actual reason for the season!  It is because of this that we should always have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!  May you and yours have your most joyous holiday season yet, and remember to keep the "Christ" in "Christmas"!  Christmas blessings to you all.

    Pastor Mike
