WE MUST REMEMBER What remember we of soldier men Who went to battlefield to fight and die? Muddy trenches soaked blood and gore In giving life; could not do more Who never saw homeland again And now in silent graves they lie What remember we of airmen Who soared like birds on metal wings? Blue sky background to twists and turns When wind fanned the flame that burns Of spiralling plane; never to fly again As in plummets end; death it brings What remember we of seamen Who fought on oceans of angry foam The ever moving restless waves Tell mournfully of watery graves As they lap the shores again Whispering of souls who never came home What remember we of woman; man Who sacrificed life to keep us free? They stood between us and the foe An awful debt to them we owe When evil succeeded not in hellish plan What means it all to you and me? What remember we of the Crucified Who went to die for you and me? Blood poppy red on cross was spilled The words uttered before breath was stilled It is finished! He loudly cried And victory was won on that tree Call to remembrance of sacrifice made Gather your thoughts this day of November Of ones who died to keep you free Of Jesus who died for you on a tree Shame on us if their memories should fade And we never bothered of them to remember Colin Moffett
