Christians are to give, not hope for losers!
Riding the Back of Gambling to Success!
There is a strong desire in most of us to succeed. Achievement is a dream which most people envision happening in their daily pursuits. When accomplished, it breeds more desire to succeed more often in various aspects of life.
As one believer to another believer I should desire their success. My prayers should be for their success. As a fellow believer and as a Christian, I should help them achieve their dreams when possible.
But that isn’t the spirit of the gambler. Their motto is to get what you have before you can get what they have. For instance, in a raffle or lottery tickets are purchased with the hopes that everyone else loses so they can win. That philosophy is totally opposite to Christian conduct as outlined in the Bible.
The "boat" has steered thousands of people toward addiction and disaster. They have introduced multitudes of well meaning people to a life of crime in order to pay gambling debts. Their sad stories are documented in various places. Homes have been wrecked, families broken up, children separated from parents, suicides, financial disasters, along with a host of other bad influences against our social order.
Big gambling winners are paraded before the cameras. But the thousands of losers and shattered dreams are never mentioned. The so called gambling "industry" produces no goods, has nothing to sale. It depends upon losers for their mammoth possessions of wealth.
It is sad indeed to see our nation jumping on the back of gambling in hopes of being carried to financial success. Our politicians, much of the public media, and many of our citizens have embraced the lie that gambling should be considered an industry and thus legalized in our society.
I’ve heard people receiving government disability and medicaid checks saying they couldn’t wait for their check to come in so they could go to the boat. These are people who have become obsessed with gambling. They are fooled into believing they will become the next big winner.
That is like the little turtle I saw in the middle of the road. It saw me coming down the road in my pickup. So, the turtle pulled its little head into its shell. Now to the turtle, it was complete safe when hid there. From some things, it might be safe, but not a vehicle. I could have smashed it to death by allowing a wheel to run over its body. Of course, I made sure the turtle wasn’t hit.
That turtle, as all turtles, have a false sense of security inside that shell around their small bodies. The one I encountered that day, because I deliberately missed it, was spared. It could have crawled on across the road thinking its shell had saved it and singing, "I’m bad, I’m bad".
Gamblers have that same sense of false security in "chance". They throw good money into a rats hole. Those who promote lotteries and raffles, and those who own casinos are not doing public service events, they are guaranteeing that most people will be losers. They will never gain nor recoup loses.
As a child of God everything in our life belongs to God. He has blessed us so we can be a blessing to others. We aren’t free to gamble it away with little hops of ever getting a return.
